John OSBORNE (c1580-1631)

and Dorothy CHEESMAN (c1580-1648)

 

John Osborne and Dorothy Cheesman married on 4 May 1607 in Horsham, Sussex.  They may have been my 11x Great Grandparnets.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)

John Osborne's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  John may have been buried on 29 May 1631 in Horsham, at which time he was described as "a married man, no householder".

Dorothy Cheesman's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been buried as Dorothie Osborne in Upper Beeding on 24 March 1647/8, but she did have a granddaughter of the same named born in 1646.

 

John Osbourne and Dorothy Cheesman had 5 known children:

  1. An unbaptised infant was buried on 23 July 1607 in Horsham.

  2. Thomas Osborne was baptised on 12 June 1608 in Horsham and buried there on 30 September 1608.

  3. John Osborne was baptised on 25 June 1609 in Horsham.  He married Mary Gray in 1642.  (They have their own page.)  They may have been my 10x Great Grandparents.

  4. Mary Osburne was baptised on 8 March 1611/2 in Horsham.  She may have married Thomas Rise on 15 October 1646 in Upper Beeding.

  5. Charles Osburne was baptised on 5 February 1614/5 in Horsham and buried there on 1 February 1615/6.

 

Francis (female) was baptised on 15 February 1626/7 in Horsham, the illegitimate daughter of John Osborne and Mary Lowdewell.

 

 

Are the following connected in anyway:

 

Walter Osborne and Alys Waklyn married on 24 January 1550/1 in Horsham.  Walter was buried on 21 March 1560/1 in Horsham.  After Walter's death Alce Osborne, widow, married John Mylles on 21 July 1561 in Horsham.

Walter and Alys had the following children:

  1. Marye Osborne was baptised on 17 January 1551/2 in Horsham.

  2. An Osborne was baptised on 22 January 1554/5 in Horsham and buried there on 30 November 1556.

  3. Joan Osborne was baptised on 14 January 1558/9 in Horsham.  Her godparents were John Sparowe, Joan Jupp (widow of Richard Jupp) and Joan Tydye (wife of Richard Tydye).  She may have married Richard Ball on 20 August 1581 in Horsham, or Israll Titchurst on 28 July 1583 in Horsham.

 

William Osborne and Em had the following son:

  1. Wylliam Osborne was buried on 19 December 1556 in Horsham.

 

Widow Osborne an old woman was buried on 12 January 1609/10 in Horsham.

John Osborne had the following children:

  1. Sara Osborne was baptised on 18 February 1557/8 in Horsham.

  2. Elyzabeth Osborne was baptised on 7 April 1560 in Horsham.  Her godparents were Thomas Elis and Elizabeth [blank].

  3. Margaret Osborne was baptised on 14 March 1561/2 in Horsham.  Her godparents were John Hall, Margaret Bottinge and Agnes Elys who were wives.

  4. Margerye Osborne was baptised on 25 April 1563 in Horsham.  Her godparents were Richard Bearde a husband, Margerye Lintot and Elizabeth Yve, who were wives.  She may have married Thomas Foster on 21 July 1589 in Horsham.  He was the son of William Foster from Bradney in Lincolnshire.

  5. Mary Osborne was baptised on 22 July 1565 in Horsham.  She may have been buried as a poor maid on 13 June 1583 in Horsham.

  6. Jane Osborne was baptised on 3 March 1567 in Horsham and buried there as a child on 3 November 1578.

Elyzabethe Osborne, wife of John Osborne was a godmother to Robert Longe, son of John Longe, on 25 July 1560 in Horsham.  John Osborne was the godfather of Elyzabethe Hever daughter of John Hever who was baptised on 17 February 1562/3 in Horsham.  John was also godfather to Robert Thayer, son of Hughe Thayer who was baptised on 20 May 1563 in Horsham.  Elizabeth was buried on 24 June 1567 in Horsham and it was noted in the burial register that she was a wife.  John Osbourne and old man was baptised on 28 February 1587/8 in Horsham.

 

Mary was baptised on 30 September 1584 in Horsham.  She was the baseborn daughter of Ralph Gelley and Mary Osborne who were both prisoners in the Horsham goal.

 

John Osborne and Gillian Broke married on 20 July 1573 in Horsham.  He was a widower and she a widow.  They had the following children:

  1. Ales Osbourne was baptised on 20 July 1574 in Horsham.

  2. Gylian Osborne was baptised on 25 September 1576 in Horsham.  She was buried 20 April 1637 in Bosham.  She married Thomas Hames on 11 October 1601 in Bosham, Sussex.

 

John Osbourne and Dorothie Orwall alias Hill had the following child:

  1. Joane Osbourne was baptised on 12 August 1594 in Horsham.  She was an illegitimate child.

Dorothy Orwell had married Ambrose Hill on 11 February 1587/8 in Horsham.  Ambrose and Dorothie had the following child:

  1. Andrewe Hill was baptised on 3 April 1588 in Horsham.

  2. Dorothie Hill was baptised on 17 May 1590 in Horsham.

Dorothy then had the following children:

  1. Henrie was baptised on 18 July 1602 in Horsham, the illegitimate son of Robert Streate and Dorothie Orwell.  He was buried as Henry Orwell on 26 May 1604 in Horsham.

  2. Marie was baptised on 18 July 1602 in Horsham, the illegitimate daughter of Robert Streate and Dorothie Orwell.

  3. An unbaptised illegitimate daughter was buried on 29 April 1610 in Horsham.

Doretie Hill alias Orwell was buried on 7 June 1610 in Horsham.

 

William Osborne and executed prisoner was buried on 25 March 1626 in Horsham.

 

Elizabeth was baptised on 18 November 1694 in Horsham, the illegitimate daughter of Thomas Osborn and Margaret Edwards.
