John NORMAN (1667-1720)

and Ann GASTON (1667-?)

John Norman and Ann Gason were my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They may also have been my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 1 August 1694 at St. Michael's, in Lewes, Sussex.  He was then of Henfield and she of the parish of St. Michael's.  Their marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes on 21 July 1694.  Her name was recorded as Agnes Gasson and it was noted in the margin that her surname was Garston.

John Norman may have been baptised on 11 August 1667 in East Grinstead, Sussex, and have been the son of William Norman (1638-?) and Bridget Faulkner (1637-?).  He may have been buried in Henfield on 15 September 1720.

Anne Gaston was baptised on 30 March 1667 at St. John the Baptist in Southover, Lewes, Sussex.  She was the daughter of William Gaston and Mary Picket.  She may have been buried on 16 May 1749 or 20 August 1750.  Both burials took place in Henfield.  Another Anne Gaston was baptised in December 1664 in Slaugham, Sussex, the daughter of Thomas Gaston,  but I think she may have married William Flote on 25 May 1691 in Horsham.

John Norman and Ann Gaston had 7 known children:

  1. Bridget Norman was baptised on 23 July 1695 in Henfield.  Might she have been named after her father's mother?  She may have married Isaac Kinsett by banns on 17 May 1726 in Steyning, Sussex.

  2. John Norman, my 6x Great Grandfather, was born on 15 February and baptised on 2 March 1697/8 in Henfield.  He married 5 144 Susan Richardson in 1722.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Ann Norman was baptised on 2 December 1698 in Henfield.   She may have married William Flint by banns on 8 May 1728 in Twineham, Sussex.  She was then of Twineham and he of Poynings, Sussex.

  4. William Norman was baptised on 22 November 1700 in Henfield.  He may have been buried on 3 January 1777 in Henfield.

  5. Elizabeth Norman was baptised on 23 November 1702 in Henfield.

  6. Mary Norman was baptised on 10 November 1704 in Henfield.

  7. Henry Norman was born on 14 March and baptised on 1 April 1707 in Henfield.  He was buried on 25 May 1727 in Henfield.

A John Norman married Ann Berry by licence on 31 March 1690 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 22 March 1689/90 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes which noted that they were both of Maresfield.
