William NEWNAM (1768-?)

and Sarah EGAR (?-?)

William Newnham and Sarah Avery married by licence on 20 July 1790 in Wivelsfield, Sussex.  Sarah was then a widow and they were both then of Wivelsfield.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)  As Sarah Egar she had previously married Edmund Avery by banns on 20 May 1783 in Ditchling, Sussex.  Edmund was from Lindfield and Sarah of Ditchling.  The witnesses to their marriage were ? Whiteman and John Eagers.

William Newnham was baptised on 24 April 1768 in Wivelsfield.  He was the son of John Newnham (1743-?) and Sarah Sandals.

Sarah's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Edmund Avery was buried on 31 October 1786 in Wivelsfield.

William Newnham and Sarah Egar had 3 known children:

  1. William Newnham was baptised on 12 September 1790 in Wivelsfield.  He married Catherine Chandler in 1821.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Mary Newnham was baptised on 14 July 1793 in Wivelsfield.  She may have been buried on 10 June 1794 in Wivelsfield, but unfortunately the burial register only gives a name and no other helpful information.

  3. Edward Newnham was baptised on 7 February 1796 in Wivelsfield.  Edward may have married Sarah Newnham on 23 April 1827 in Wivelsfield.

Edmund Avery and Sarah Egar had 1 known daughter:

  1. Sarah Avery was baptised on 13 February 1785 in Wivelsfield
