Charles MOREN

and Anne WELLS (c1738-1815)

Charles Moren
and
Anne Wells
may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.
(Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)
They married by banns on 26 October 1761 in Wadhurst, Sussex. They
were both of Wadhurst. The witnesses to the marriage were
Will Gurr
and
George Chapman.
They all signed their names. The banns were published at Wadhurst on ?
September and 4 and 11 October 1761. I don’t know if Will Gurr was a
relative or friend, but George Chapman was possibly a Church Warden as his
name appears against several marriage entries. At the time of their
marriage Charles was aged about 36 and Ann about 23.
Charles Moren
was born about 1725. He would seem to be
the first Moren in the Wadhurst area. He died aged 77 years and was buried
on 31 May 1802 in Wadhurst. He was a farmer. I have checked the East
Sussex Baptism Index and Charles does not seem to have been baptised in East
Sussex. Charles and his son Charles were witnesses to
Thomas Petitt's (1736-1802) will dated 19 November 1798.

Did Charles or his brother William father a daughter
by
Mary Avard (1760-?)?
-
William Moren,
my 5x Great Grandfather, may have been born about 1763, but I have been
unable to find his baptism and, therefore, can not be certain that he was
a son of Charles and Anne, but they were the only Moren's in Wadhurst at
that time. William married
Elizabeth Smith

John may have married twice. Firstly
to Ann before or about 1800.

Might they have had a son named Charles born in about 1725? And
might he have first married Dorothy Jacks on 3 January 1744/5 at St.

A Charles Moren mercer, of the parish of St. Paul Covent
Garden, London, left a will dated 17 September 1728 and proved on 25 March
1733/4. He appointed his wife Elizabeth Moren as
executrix and left the bulk of his estate to his brother Dominic
Moren. Dominic made his will on 24 July 1748 and appointed
his wife Ann Moren as executrix. His will was proved
on 1 September 1748. Neither Charles nor Dominic seem to have had any
children.
