Thomas MOOR (1755-1835)

and Elizabeth HOAD (?-?)

Thomas Moore and Elizabeth Hoad married by banns on 23 April 1778 in Cowfold, Sussex.  The witnesses to their marriage were Walter Hills and Ira Hoad.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Moore was baptised on 14 September 1755 in Cowfold, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Moor (1729-1809) and Mary Voice (c1731-1815).  Thomas may have died aged 77 years and have been buried on 28 November 1835 in Cowfold.

Elizabeth Hoad's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

Thomas Moor and Elizabeth Hoad had 9 known children:

  1. Thomas Moor was baptised on 14 March 1779 in Cowfold.  He married Phoebe Thomsett in 1799.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Anne Moore was baptised on 18 June 1780 in Cowfold.

  3. Elizabeth Moore was baptised on 11 November 1781 in Cowfold.

  4. Mary Moore was baptised on 1 May 1785 in Cowfold.  The baptism register recorded that her parents were paupers.

  5. Sarah Moore was baptised on 1 July 1787 in Cowfold.

  6. James Moore was baptised on 19 July 1789 in Cowfold.

  7. Hannah Moore was baptised on 4 March 1792 in Cowfold.

Hannah married John Geer by banns on 12 April 1815 in Cowfold.  He was a bachelor from Speldhurst, Kent and she a spinster of Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Moore and William Hills.

  8. Charles Moore was baptised on 30 March 1794 in Cowfold.  In 1851, Charles was a 58 year old widower and living at Dudneys Cottage in Cowfold.  He was then an agricultural labourer and his brother Thomas and his wife Phoebe was living with him.

  9. Lydia Moore was baptised on 22 October 1797 in Cowfold.

Lydia married James Pelham or James Petcham by licence on 17 November 1817 in Cowfold.  He was a bachelor from Seaford and she a spinster of Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were Jane Vinall and William Hills.
