Thomas MOOR (1729-1809)

and Mary VOICE (c1731-1815)

Thomas Moor and Mary Voice married by banns on 5 April 1752 at the parish church of St. Peter's in Cowfold, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Thomas was the nephew of 2 of my 6x Great Grandmothers, Sarah Purvey (1706-1743) and Bridget Purvey (1709-1778).)

Thomas Moor was baptised on 18 February 1728/9 in Bolney, Sussex.  He was the son of Richard Moore (1689-1761) and Mary Purvey (1693-1778).  He was buried on 21 Janaury 1809 in Cowfold and the burial register noted that he was Thomas Moore, senior.

Mary Voice died aged 84 years and was buried on 28 May 1815 in Cowfold, therefore, she was born about 1731.  Might she have been baptised on 23 October 1726 in Balcombe, Sussex, the daughter of Matthew Voice and Mary Winn?

Thomas Moor and Mary Voice had 9 known children:

1. Mary Moor was baptised on 5 July 1752 in Cowfold.

   Mary married Thomas Willet by banns on 27 May 1772 in Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were Isaac Mitchell and Joshua Humphreys.

   Thomas was baptised on 13 October 1745 in Cowfold and was the son of John Willett (1703-1789) and Anne Aylwood.  He may have died aged 83 years (as per the burial register) and have been buried on 16 February 1825 in Cowfold.

   Thomas and Mary had the following children:

   1. John Willet was baptised on 28 April 1774 in Cowfold.  He died aged 84 years in East Grinstead, Sussex and was buried on 26 December 1857 in Cowfold.

   2. Ann Willet was baptised on 27 October 1776 in Cowfold.

   3. Mary Willet was baptised on 17 January 1779 in Cowfold.

   4. Thomas Willet was baptised on 15 July 1781 in Cowfold.  He may have been buriedon 22 April 1811 in Cowfold.  The burial register recorded that Thomas Willett, junior was buried.

   5. Sarah Willett was baptised on 8 August 1784 in Cowfold.  The baptism register noted that her parents were paupers.

   6. James Willett was baptised on 17 June 1787 in Cowfold.  He died aged 35 years and was buried on 18 December 1821 in Cowfold.

   7. Elizabeth Willett was baptised on 23 October 1790 in Cowfold.

   8. Christian Willet was baptised on 28 July 1793 in Cowfold.

2. Thomas Moore was baptised on 14 September 1755 in Cowfold.  He may have died aged 77 years and have been buried on 28 November 1835 in Cowfold.

   Thomas married Elizabeth Hoad on 23 April 1778 in Cowfold.

   Thomas and Elizabeth had the following children:

   1. Thomas Moor was baptised on 14 March 1779 in Cowfold.

   2. Anne Moore was baptised on 18 June 1780 in Cowfold.

   3. Elizabeth Moore was baptised on 11 November 1781 in Cowfold.

   4. Mary Moore was baptised on 1 May 1785 in Cowfold.  The baptism register recorded that her parents were paupers.

   5. Sarah Moore was baptised on 1 July 1787 in Cowfold.

   6. James Moore was baptised on 19 July 1789 in Cowfold.

   7. Hannah Moore was baptised on 4 March 1792 in Cowfold.

   8. Charles Moore was baptised on 30 March 1794 in Cowfold.

   9. Lydia Moore was baptised on 22 October 1797 in Cowfold.

3. Richard Moore was baptised on 22 January 1758 in Cowfold.

4. William Moore was baptised on 20 July 1760 in Cowfold.

5. James Moore was baptised on 11 July 1762 in Cowfold.  He married Mary Dale in 1789.  (They have their own page.)

6. George Moore was baptised on 7 July 1765 in Cowfold and buried there on 25 February 1772.

7. Charles Moore was baptised on 30 April 1769 in Cowfold.

   Charles married Jane Steele by banns on 14 October 1800 in Cowfold.  They were both then of Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Comber and William Hills.

   Jane was baptised on 15 May 1781 in Cowfold and was the daughter of Thomas Steel and Mary Gander.  She died aged 53 years and was buried on 11 February 1834 in Cowfold.

   Charles and Jane had 12 known children:

   1. Mary Moore was baptised on 16 February 1801 in Cowfold.

   2. Thomas Moore was baptised on 19 September 1802 in Cowfold.  Thomas married Eleanor Botting on 12 September 1842 in Cowfold.  Their father's were named as Charles Moore and William Botting and the witnesses to their marriage were James Tulett and Henry Hill.

   3. Charles Moore was baptised on 14 July 1804 in Cowfold.

   4. Jane Moore was baptised on 13 July 1806 in Cowfold.

   5. Richard Moore was baptised on 24 April 1808 in Cowfold.  He may have died aged 25 years in Blackington (could that have been Blatchington?) and was buried on 6 November 1833 in Cowfold.

   6. A child was baptised on 18 November 1810 in Cowfold.

   7. Charity Moore was baptised on 10 January 1813 in Cowfold, at which time her father was a labourer.

   8. Catherine Moore was baptised on 29 January 1815 in Cowfold, at which time her father was a labourer.  She died aged 21 years and was buried on 13 March 1836 in Cowfold.

   9. William Moore was baptised on 12 October 1817 in Cowfold, at which time his father was a labourer.

   10. Elizabeth Moore was baptised on 24 October 1819 in Cowfold.  She married James Tullett in 1837.  (They have their own page.)

   11. James Moore was baptised on 23 September 1821 in Cowfold, at which time his father was a labourer.

   12. Rebecca Moore was baptised on 20 June 1824 in Cowfold, at which time her father was a labourer.

8. Ann Moore was baptised on 7 July 1771 in Cowfold and buried there on 8 August 1773.

9. George Moore was baptised on 16 May 1773 in Cowfold and buried there on 5 August 1773.
