Ancestors of Mandy Willard

Richard MOORE (1689-1761)

and Mary PURVEY (1693-1778)

Richard Moore and Mary Purvey married on 14 April 1713 at the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Bolney, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Mary was the elder sister of 2 of my 6x Great Grandmothers, Sarah Purvey (1706-1743) and Bridget Purvey (1709-1778).)

Richard Moore was baptised on 14 February 1688/9 in Bolney.  He was the son of Richard Moore and Elizabeth Jupp (?-1727).  Richard or his father may have been buried on 23 March 1746/7 in Bolney - I am inclined to think this was Richard senior, rather than junior.

Mary Purvey was baptised on 9 August 1693 in Bolney.  She was the eldest daughter of Henry Purvey (1665-1711) and Bridget Sherley (1668-1745).  She may have been buried on 27 January 1761 in Bolney, as Mary Moor, widow, but on 3 September 1761 a Richard Moor was buried in Bolney.  Then on 6 December 1778 another Mary Moor, widow was buried in Bolney. 

Richard Moore and Mary Purvey had 8 known children:

1. Mary Moore was baptised on 13 March 1714 in Bolney (as per the IGI, but the SRS transcript does not include this baptism, therefore, the original baptism register needs to be checked.)

2. Elizabeth Moor was baptised on 21 February 1717/8 in Bolney and buried there with her brother Richard on 18 January 1722/3.

3. Richard Moor was baptised on 7 August 1720 in Bolney and buried there on 18 January 1722/3.

4. Anne Moor was baptised on 14 April 1723 in Bolney.

5. Elizabeth Moor was baptised on 19 May 1726 in Bolney.  Elizabeth most probably married William Lucas by banns on 16 April 1745 in Bolney.

6. Thomas Moor was baptised on 18 February 1728/9 in Bolney.  He married Mary Voice in 1752.  (They have their own page.)

7. Sarah Moore was baptised on 4 July 1731 in Bolney.

8. Richard Moore was baptised on 17 March 1733 in Bolney.

   Richard may have married Christine Ridge by banns on 12 May 1760 in Cowfold.  They were both then of Cowfold.  The witnesses to the marriage were Richard Boys and Elizabeth Ridge.

   Christian was baptised on 18 April 1731 in Cowfold and was the daughter of Stephen Ridge and Sarah.

   They may have had the following child:

   1. Elizabeth Moore was baptised on 25 march 1763 in Cowfold.  A transcript of the Cowfold register records that her mother's name was Catherine.

   2. Stephen Moore was baptised on 16 March 1766 in Cowfold.  His mother's name was recorded as Christian in the baptism register.

   3. Richard Moore was baptised on 4 September 1768 in Cowfold.

   4. Benjamin Moore was baptised on 26 May 1771 in Cowfold.

Richard and Mary were the only Moor couple to have had children baptised in Bolney when their own children were baptised.
