John MILLS (1704-?)

and Sarah WOODS (c1710-?)

 

John Mills and Sarah Woods may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 18 March 1733/4 in Wiggonholt, Sussex.  They were both then said to be of Waltham (which was probably Coldwaltham).

John Mills may have been baptised on 16 July 1704 in Coldwaltham, Sussex, the son of Richard Mills (1656-?) and Elizabeth.  There was also a John Mills baptised on 17 December 1712 in Hardham, Sussex, the son of John Mills and Anne.  And another on 12 March 1713 in Pulborough, Sussex, the son of John Mills.

Sarah Woods may have been baptised on 15 July 1716 in Amberley, Sussex and have been the daughter of William Woods and Sarah.  But there were at least 2 other possible baptisms:  26 September 1708 in Sullington, Sussex, the daughter of John Wood and Judith; and 23 August 1713 in Storrington, Sussex the daughter of Thomas Woods.

 

John Mills and Sarah Woods had 6 known children:

  1. Betty Mills was baptised on 8 December 1735 in Coldwaltham.

  2. John Mills was baptised on 17 July 1737 in Coldwaltham.

  3. Sarah Mills was baptised on 12/14 January 1738/9 in Coldwaltham.  She may have married John Larance by banns on 13 March 1766 in Fittleworth, Sussex.  She was then of Coldwaltham and he of Pulborough.

  4. Richard Mills was baptised on 30 November 1740 in Coldwaltham.

  5. Richard Mills, my possible 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 8 July 1749 in Coldwaltham.  He may have married Susanna Sears in 1774.  (They have their own page.)

  6. Thomas Mills was baptised on 9 December 1753 in Coldwaltham.
