James MATTHEWS (1659-1728)

and Joan MITCHELL (1657-1737)

 

James Matthews and Joan Mitchell were my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on  22 June 1680 in Bolney, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was dated 18 June 1680 and was issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that James Mathew was of Bolney and Jane Mitchell a spinster of Bolney.

James Matthews was baptised in March 1658/9 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.  He was the son of 5 217 James Matthew (1626-?) and 5 217 Mary Roberts (1630-?).  He was buried on 8 October 1728 in Twineham, Sussex

Joan Michell was baptised on 1 November 1657 in Bolney.  She was the daughter of Thomas Mitchell (1619-1685) and Sarah Steel (1637-?).  Joan was buried on 25 May 1737 in Twineham. 

 

James Matthews and Joan Mitchell had 2 known children:

  1. Sarah Matthews was baptised on 9 March 1680/1 in Bolney.

  2. James Matthew(s), my 6x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 5 May 1682 in Twineham.  He married Mary Woolven in 1709.  (They have their own page.)
