Hugh MARCHANT (1738-1814)

and Sarah STREETER (1743-1803)

 

Hugh Marchant and Sarah Streeter married by Banns on 12 September 1765 in West Hoathly, Sussex.  At the time they were both of West Hoathly.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Hugh Marchant was born on 3 September 1738 and baptised on 10 September 1738 in Ardingly, Sussex.  He was the seventh child and third son of Edward Marchant (1696-1761) and Sarah Simmonds (1700-1774).  He died aged 77 years in the Workhouse and was buried on 20 November 1814 in West Hoathly.  Hugh was a witness to his sister Elizabeth marriage on 18 June 1769 in Ardingly, at which time he made his mark.

Sarah Streater was baptised on 25 December 1743 in West Hoathly.  She was the daughter of John Streater (1719-?) and Sarah Martin.  She was buried on 7 January 1803 in West Hoathly.

 

Hugh Marchant and Sarah Streeter had 10 known children:

  1. 5 89 John Marchant was baptised on 8 December 1765 in West Hoathly and buried there on 22/8 June 1766.

  2. Sarah Marchant was baptised on 25 January 1767 in West Hoathly.

  3. Elizabeth Marchant was baptised on 12 February 1769 in West Hoathly.  She had 2 illegitimate daughters:

    1. Lydia Marchant was baptised on 15 April 1792 in West Hoathly.  She married John Mason on 14 November 1818 in West Hoathly.  At the time John was a Bachelor of Ashtead in Surrey and Lydia a Spinster.

    2. Jane Marchant was baptised on 4 October 1796 in West Hoathly.

  4. William Marchant was baptised on 20 October 1771 in West Hoathly.  He was buried on 16 July 1836 in West Hoathly.  William married Sarah Balchin on 3 November 1797 in West Hoathly.  They had 6 known children.

  5. Jane Marchant was baptised on 24 April 1774 in West Hoathly.

  6. Edward Marchant was baptised on 1 December 1776 in West Hoathly.

  7. Henry Marchant was baptised on 16 May 1779 in West Hoathly.  He was buried on 6/17 January 1797 in West Hoathly.

  8. John Marchant was baptised on 28 April 1782 in West Hoathly.

  9. Lydda Marchant was baptised on 24 October 1785 in West Hoathly and buried there on 1 December 1785.

  10. Peter Marchant was baptised on 2 October 1791 in West Hoathly.
