One
Two siblings of my direct ancestors married into the same Marchant tree.
Edward Marchant (1696-1761) married
Sarah Simmonds (1700-1774) in
1728 in Lindfield, Sussex. They had 8 known children. Their eldest
son was John Marchant (1728-1801) and he married
Dorcas Alfrey
(1738-1822) in 1758 in Shermanbury, Sussex.
Sarah Simmonds was the sister of my 6x Great Grandmother
Ann Simmonds
(1703-?) and they were the daughters of
Thomas Simmonds (c1666-1748) and
Sarah Burley (c1672-1754).
Dorcas Alfrey was the sister of my 7x Great Grandfather
John Alfrey
(1727-1814) and they were the children of
John Alfrey (1691-?) and
Elizabeth Davis.

Richard Marchant
(c1590-1667) married
Mary Elliott
(1597) in 1616 in Rotherfield, Sussex. Mary was the sister of my 10x Great
Grandfather Alexander Elliott (1584-?), and they were the children of
John Elliott (1545-1632).

I am also interested in the
James Marchant who married
Ann Knowles
on 12 April 1796 in East Grinstead, Sussex.
Ann may have been born in 1772 in Balcombe, Sussex and have been the sister of
my 4x Great Grandfather
John Knowles (1766-1837).
John and Ann were the
children of
Richard Knowles (c1740-1788) and
Frances Brooker
(c1744-1826).

Another of interest is
William Marchant who married
Amelia Setford
in 1798 in Chailey, Sussex. In 1851 Amelia was a 72 year old widow living
with her 50 year old widowered son William Marchant. She had been
born in 1779 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex and was the daughter of
Charles
Setford and Hannah. I am not knowingly connected to this
family, and am interested in them simply because I have ground to a halt with my
Setford ancestors and am trying to piece together other Setfords, in the hope
that I may be able to extend my own line.
Five
William Tullett (1846-?) - nephew of my 2x Great Grandmother,
Catherine Tulet (1836-1924) - married Kate Maria Marchant in 1876.
She was born 1855 in Balcombe and was the daughter of
Thomas Marchant
(1833-?) and Maria
Pickard (c1833-?). Thomas had been baptised as Tom Potter
Marchant in 1833 in Balcombe and was the son of
Joseph Marchant
(1799-1860) and
Sarah Stenning, widow (1793-1833).
