John LONGLEY (c1570-1639)
and Elizabeth BALCOMBE (c1575-1622)

John Longley
and Elizabeth Balcombe may have been my 9x Great Grandparents. (Click
here
to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married by
licence on 3 March 1616/7 in Balcombe, Sussex. She was then describe
as Elizabeth, widow of Richard Balcombe.
John and Elizabeth's marriage licence was issued on 15 February 1616/7 by
the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that he was a yeoman and they were
both of Balcombe. John may have married again to Margery
Holman by licence on 13 April 1631 at St. Anne's in Lewes, Sussex.
Their marriage licence was issued on the same day and recorded that John was
a yeoman and Margery a widow and they were both of Horsted Keynes, Sussex.
Richard Balcombe married Elizabeth Balcombe
on 25 November 1595 in Balcombe.
John Longley's
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. He was
buried on 22 October 1639 in Balcombe. John left a will dated 22
October 1639 and proved on 23 November 1639. In his will he mentioned,
son George Longley, daughter Margaret wife
of John Turner, 3 grandchildren, Mary,
Margaret and John Turner, daughter
Jane Longley, cousin
John Burte, kinsman William Longly, kinsman
John Luxford, cousin John Comber, son
William Longley was was appointed sole executor, brother in
law John Rapper and John Killingbecke were
appointed overseers.
Elizabeth
Balcombe may have been baptised on 21 June 1574 in Balcombe, the
daughter of Edward Balcombe. But it would seem her
first husband may also have the child of Edward. She may have been
buried on 14 September 1622 in Horsted Keynes. The burial register
just records her name as Elizabeth Longlie.
The Horsted Keynes
burial register records that Elnor wife of John
Longlye was buried on 10 March 1623/4.
Margery's
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

been baptised on 28 February 1569/70 in Balcombe, the son of Edward

of Edward! So one of them wasn't the child of Edward. Richard
