George LONGHURST (c1670-1733)

and Joane KEMPSALE (1672-1747)

George Longhurst and Joane Kempsale married on 7 July 1691 in Rusper, Sussex.

George Longhurst's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 9 January 1732/3 in Rusper.  Might he have had a brother named William Longhurst?  And might they have been the sons of a William Longhurst who was born in Rusper in 1647?

Joanna Kempsall was baptised on 26 April 1672 in Rusper.  She was the daughter of William Kempsall and Sarah Collins.  She was buried as Joan Longhurst, widow, on 20 October 1747 in Rusper.

George Longhurst and Joane Kempsale had 8 known children:

  1. George Longhurst was baptised on 3 October 1692 in Rusper.

  2. Elizabeth Longhurst was baptised on 13 May 1694 in Rusper.

Might she have married William Charman on 15 May 1726 in Warnham, Sussex?

  3. William Longshurst was baptised on 14 September 1697 in Rusper.  He died aged 80 years and was buried on 8 March 1778 in Rusper.

William married Sarah Chairman on 3 October 1723 in Rusper.

Sarah was born about 1700.  She died aged 85 years and was buried on 19 December 1785 in Rusper.  The burial register noted that she was a widow and pauper.

William and Sarah had the following children:

    1. William Longhurst was baptised on 31 January 1724 in Rusper.

    2. James Longhurst was baptised on 6 May 1726 in Rusper.

    3. Sarah Longhurst was baptised on 3 March 1728 in Rusper.

    4. George Longhurst was baptised on 9 February 1733 in Rusper.

    5. John Longhurst was baptised on 11 May 1735 in Rusper.  He or his Uncle may have been buried on 24 June 1799 in Rusper, as the burial register only records that a John Longhurst was buried.

    6. Thomas Longhurst was baptised on 27 March 1737 in Rusper.  He died aged 83 years and was buried on 29 September 1820 in Rusper.  The burial register noted that he was from East Grinstead.

Thomas married Mary Shaw by banns on 16 April 1759 in Nuthurst, Sussex.  Thomas was then a labourer from Horley, Surrey and Mary was of Nuthurst.

Thomas and Mary had the following child:

      1. Charles Longhurst was baptised on 17 June 1759 in Rusper.  Charles married Mary Dale by banns on 30 September 1783 in Rusper.

      2. Thomas Longhurst was baptised on 8 April 1764 in Rusper.

    7. Charles Longhurst was baptised on 1 August 1742 in Rusper.

    8. Nan Longhurst was baptised on 1 August 1742 in Rusper.

  4. Samuell Longhurst was baptised on 8 October 1701 in Rusper.  The baptism register noted that his father was a labourer.

  5. Thomas Longhurst was baptised on 20 July 1703 in Rusper.  The baptism register noted that his father was a husbandman.  He was buried on 11 March 1705 in Rusper and the burial register noted that he was the son of George Longhurst, a husbandman.

  6. Thomas Longhurst was baptised on 13 September 1706 in Rusper.

    Thomas married Betty.

Might they have had 2 daughters baptised in Ewhurst, Surrey in 1748 and 1750?

Thomas and Betty had the following child:

    1. Betty Longhurst was baptised on 3 September 1732 in Rusper.

  7. John Longhurst was baptised on 24 November 1710 in Rusper and buried there on 31 December 1710.  The burial register noted that he was the son of George and Joane.
