Henry LINDFIELD (1819-?)

and Mary RICHARDSON (1820-?)

Henry Linfield and Mary Richardson married by banns on 18 January 1840 in Cowfold, Sussex.  Henry was a bachelor and labourer from Slaugham.  Mary was a spinster and a minor.  Their fathers were named as Henry Linfield a labourer and James Richardson a gardener.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Wadey and Ann Richardson.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Henry Lindfield was baptised on 4 April 1819 in Horsham, Sussex.  He was the son of Henry Lindfield and Sarah Pannett.  At the time of his baptism his father was a labourer.

Mary Richardson was baptised on 31 December 1820 in Cowfold.  She was the daughter of James Richardson (1783-1855) and Ann Woolvin (1789-1880).  When she was baptised her father was a labourer.

In 1861 the couple and 8 children were living at Hop Gardens in Lower Beeding.  Henry was then a 42 year old agricultural labourer and Mary was 40.

Henry Lindfield and Mary Richardson had 13 known children:

1. Mary Lindfield was baptised on 28 June 1840 in Cowfold, at which time her father was a labourer.  She married Thomas Parsons in 1863.  (They have their own page.)

2. Henry Lindfield was baptised on 5 September 1841 in Cowfold, at which time his father was a labourer.

3. James Lindfield was born about 1843 in Lower Beeding.  In 1861 he was an 18 year old agricultural labourer and the eldest of his siblings living at home.

   James married Margaret Tourle.

   Margaret was born about 1844 in West Grinstead, and was the daughter of Charles Tourle (1798-1885) and Sarah Knight (1807-1871).

   James and Margaret had the following children:

   8. George Lindfield

4. Elizabeth Lindfield was baptised on 9 March 1845 in Lower Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer.

5. William Lindfield was baptised on 6 December 1846 in Lower Beeding, at which time his father was a labourer.  He was a 15 year old agricultural labourer in 1861.  William married Rebecca Wheeler in 1876.  Rebecca was born about 1856 in Shermanbury.  William and Rebecca had the following children:

   2. Harry Lindfield

   3. Albert Lindfield

   4. Islaid Lindfield

   5. Hildia Lindfield

6. Sarah Ann Lindfield was baptised on 25 December 1849 in Lower Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer.  The 1861 census records that Sarah Lindfield was an 11 year old scholar.

7. Walter Lindfield was born about 1852 in Lower Beeding.  He married Margaret Vinall in 1875.  (They have their own page.)

8. Jane Lindfield was born on 23 May 1854 and baptised on 18 June 1854 in Lower Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer.  She was a 6 year old scholar in 1861.

9. George Linfield was baptised on 20 July 1856 in Lower Beeding, at which time his father was a labourer.  He was 4 years old in 1861.  George married Ellen.  Ellen was born about 1860 in Lower Beeding.  George and Ellen had the following children:

   3. George Lindfield

   4. Bessie Lindfield

   5. William Lindfield

10. Warden Linfield was baptised on 29 August 1858 in Lower Beeding, at which time his father was a labourer.  He was 2 years old in 1861.

11. Louisa Linfield was baptised on 30 April 1860 in Lower Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer.  She died aged 10 years and was buried on 19 January 1871 in Lower Beeding.  The 1861 census records that Eliza Lindfield was a year old.

12. Thomas Lindfield was baptised on 17 March 1862 in Lower Beeding, at which time his father was a labourer.  Thomas married Kate.  Kate was born about 1865 in Shermanbury.  Thomas and Kate had the following children:

    4. Constance H. Lindfield

13. Harriet Lindfield was baptised on 22 January 1865 in Lower Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer.
