Ancestors of Mandy Willard

William LELLIOT (1787-1839)

and Frances NYE (1787-1861)

William Lelliot and France Nye married on 5 February 1810 in Henfield, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Lelliott was baptised on 13 May 1787 in Henfield, Sussex.  He was the son of William Lilliot (1751-1825) and Jenny Wood (1761-1841).  It was noted in the baptism register that his parents were able to pay the 3d baptism fee.  He died on 16 April 1839 in Henfield.

Frances Nye was baptised on 16 July 1787 in Henfield, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Richard Nye (1748-?) and Elizabeth Boniface.  It was noted in the baptism register that her parents were paupers and thus exempt from paying the baptism fee.  Frances's sister, Martha Nye (1780-1850) also married a William Lelliott (1777-?).

William Lellyett and Frances Nye had 9 known children:

1. William Lelliot was born and baptised on 23 April 1810 in Henfield.  He died on 20 February 1899 in Henfield.

   William married Catherine Cockerton on 16 November 1832 in Henfield.

   Catherine was born on 23 July 1811 in Shoreham, Sussex and was the daughter of Robert Cockerton and Catherine.  She died aged 60 years on 23 February 1872 and was buried in Henfield.

   In 1841 the family were living at Bests in Henfield and William was a bargeman.  Also with them on census night was 6 year old Jane West.

   William and Catherine had 6 known children:

   1. William Cockerton Lelliott was baptised on 10 November 1833 in Henfield.  He was 7 years old in 1841.

   2. Jane Catherine Lelliott was baptised on 29 March 1835 in Henfield.  She was 6 years old in 1841.

   3. Lawrence Lelliott was baptised on 12 November 1837 in Henfield.  In 1841 he was 3 years old.  He died aged 20 years when he was accidentally drowned in the St. Lawrence river on 28 October 1857.

   4. Louisa Lelliott was baptised on 27 October 1841 in Henfield.

   5. Lancaster Lelliott was baptised on 8 July 1844 in Henfield.

   6. Lenoard Lelliott was baptised on 8 July 1844 in Henfield.

      Leonard married Sarah and they had the following known children:

      1. Lenonard Lelliott was born about 1878 in Henfield.

      2. Louisa K. Lelliott was born about 1880 in Henfield.

2. Frances Lelliott was born on 14 July 1812 and baptised on 19 July 1812 in Henfield.

   Frances married William Payne on 11 October 1835 in Henfield.

   William was baptised on 3 March 1811 in Henfield and was the son of Thomas Payne and Harriet Blake.

   William and Frances had 4 known children:

3. Ann Lelliott

   Ann married Henry Stringer on 8 December 1832 in Henfield.

5. Sarah Lelliott

6. James Lelliott was baptised on 7 May 1820 in Henfield.

7. James Lelliott was baptised on 13 May 1821 in Henfield.

8. Mary Lelliott was born on 28 February 1822 in Henfield and baptised on 31 March 1822 at the Providence Independent Chapel in Cuckfield.

   Mary married Henry Barker Muzzell on 25 March 1850 in Henfield.

   Henry was baptised on 25 October 1829 in Newtimber, Sussex and was the son of John Barker Muzzell (1805-?) and Frances Lelliott (1804-?).  (Henry mother and wife were cousins.)

9. John Lelliott was baptised on 17 September 1826 at the Providence Independent Chapel in Cuckfield.  When the 1841 census was recorded he may have been a 15 year old journeyman draper living in the home of John Thorpe in West Street, Horsham.
