William LELLIOTT (1751-1825)

and Elizabeth CHANDLER (c1755-1778)

and Jenny WOOD (1761-1841)

 

William Lelliott and Elizabeth Chandler married on 11 May 1776 in Henfield, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Muzzell and Mary Vinall.  There were no known children from this marriage.  William next married Jenny Wood on 20 October 1784 in Henfield, Sussex.  William was then a widower and Jenny a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Wickham and William Vinall.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Llliot was born on 19 July 1851 and baptised 4 August 1751 in Henfield.  He was the son of William Lelliott (1725-1766) and Jane Slatter (c1730-?).  William was buried on 12 January 1825 in Henfield.

Elizabeth Chandler's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 28 May 1778 in Henfield.  The burial register recorded that she was the late wife of William Lilliot.

Jenny Wood was baptised on 12 May 1761 in Twineham, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Wood and Keziah Walder.  Jenny died on 16 November 1841 in Henfield.

When the 1841 census was recorded, 80 year old Jenny Lelliott was living with the family of her son Philip at Knights in Henfield.

 

William Lelliott and Jenny Wood had 9 known children:

  1. Nanny Lelliott was baptised on 4 December 1785 in Henfield.  She died 86 year on 29 January 1872 in Henfield and her name was then recorded as Nanny Knight.  The 1861 census records that she was a 75 year old widow and lodge keeper living at Chestham Lodge in Henfield.  At that time she had a lodger, 78 year old widow and fellow lodge keeper, Mary Mitchell. In 1871 she was an 85 year old widow of no occupation, lodging in the home of 87 year old widow Mary Mitchell in Martin's Row, Henfield.  (As Mary Goddard she may have married James Mitchell on 9 October 1803 in Upper Beeding.)

    In 1851, 62 year old Richard and 65 year old Ann were living alone at Kings Cottage in Shermanbury and he was then a pauper/agricultural labourer.

    Nanny married Richard Knight on 2 September 1810 in Henfield.

    Richard was baptised on 8 July 1787 in Shermanbury, Sussex and was the son of John Knight (1754-?) and Ann Gearing (?-?).  He probably died between 1851 and 1861.

  2. William Lilliot was baptised on 13 May 1787 in Henfield.  He married Frances Nye in 1810.  (The have their own page.)

  3. James Lelliott was baptised on 11 January 1789 in Henfield.  James may have married Catherine Woolgar on 17 November 1816 in Henfield, but there was another James Lelliott (his cousin) who was baptised on 8 February 1789 in Henfield.

  4. Kezia Lelliott was baptised on 9 October 1791 in Henfield.

    Kezia married Joseph Nottingham on 19 July 1827 in Broadwater.  They were both then of Broadwater.

    When the 1851 census was recorded 59 year old widow, Kezia Nottingham was a cook and living with her daughter Mary and son-in-law at 43 Ship Street in Brighton.

    Joseph and Kezia had 1 known daughter:

    1. Mary Nottingham was born about 1828 in Broadwater.

      Mary married James Piper on 19 December 1848 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.  Their fathers were named as John Piper and Joseph Nottingham.

      James was baptised on 6 March 1825 in Hellingly, Sussex and was the son of John Piper and Caroline Crowhurst.  He was a 24 year old beer retailer in 1851.

  5. Harry Lelliott was baptised on 7 April 1793 in Henfield.

    When the 1851 census was recorded he may have been 58 year old Henry Lelliott who gave his place of birth as Henfield, living at 9 Warwick Buildings in Broadwater along with his 56 year old wife, Susannah who had been born in Chelsea, Middlesex.  Henry was then a tea dealer.

    Henry Lelloit married Susannah Barber on 27 January 1821 in London (IGI).

  6. John Lelliott was baptised on 21 February 1796 in Henfield.

    In 1851 he may have been the 57 year old John Leliott, born in Henfield, lodging in the home of Henry Sayers at Britons Farm in West Grinstead.  John was then an agricultural labourer.

  7. Peter Lelliott was baptised on 18 November 1798 in Henfield.  He was buried on 7 September 1869 in Henfield.

    As Peter Lellyott, bachelor of Henfield, did he marry Mary Hedgecock, spinster of Brighton on 9 October 1828 in Brighton?

  8. Sarah Lelliott was baptised on 14 December 1800 in Henfield.  As Sarah Ann Lelliott did she marry John Hemsley on 11 October 1828 in Henfield?  She was then a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Henfield.

  9. Philip Lelliott was baptised on 30 September 1804 in Henfield.  He married Hannah Emsley in 1826.  (They have their own page.)
