William LILLIOT (1725-1766)

and Jane SLATTER (c1730-?)

 

William Lilliot and Jane Slatter married on 11 April 1751 at the parish church of St. Peters in Henfield, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  William was the nephew of my 6x great grandfather.)

William Lilliot was born on 18 March 1724/5 and baptised on 4 April 1725 in Henfield.  He was the son of John Lilliot (1688-?) and Mary Hoad.  William was buried in Henfield on 27 May 1766.  The burial register only recorded his name.

Jane Slater's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She had 3 children baptised after her husband's death, although the eldest of these was most probably the daughter of William.  A Jane Slater was baptised in West Grinstead, Sussex in 1731, but she was buried there in 1743.

 

William Lilliot and Jane Slatter had 8 known children:

  1. William Lilliot was born on 19 July 1751 in Henfield.  He married twice, firstly to Elizabeth Chandler in 1776 and then to Jenny Wood in 1784.  (They have their own page.)

  2. John Lilliot was born on 2 March and privately baptised on 11 March 1754 in Henfield.  He was admitted into the Church on 17 March 1754.

  3. Charles Lilliot was born on 13 July and baptised on 27 July 1755 in Henfield.  He or his cousin Charles Lilliot born in 1768, was buried there on 12 October 1778 or on 10 May 1789.

  4. Sarah Lilliot was born on 2 December and baptised on 18 December 1755 in Henfield.  She married John Woolven in 1782.  (They have their own page.)

  5. James Lilliot was born 12 January 1760 in Henfield.  He married Mary Goble in 1786.  (They have their own page.)

  6. Thomas Lilliot was privately baptised as he was in peril of death on 16 July 1762 in Henfield.  He was received into the Church on 15 August 1762.

    As Thomas Liliot he may have married Susannah Morley by banns on 23 May 1785 in Poynings, Sussex.  He was then of Beeding and made his mark.  She was of Poynings and also made her mark.  The witnesses to their marriage were Roger Andrew (signed) and Sarah Simmonds (mark).  Another Thomas Leliot was born in Edburton in 1765.

  7. Elizabeth Lilliot was baptised on 8 April 1765 in Henfield.

  8. Ann Lilliot was baptised on 19 April 1767, eleven months after her father's death.

 

Jane Lilliot, nee Slatter had 2 children:

  1. Nicholas Lilliot was baptised on 1 October 1769 in Henfield, and it was noted in the baptism register that he was the base born son of widow Jane Lilliott..  He married Ann Sawyer in 1793.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Richard Lilliott was baptised on 6 November 1774 in Henfield, and it was noted in the baptism register that he was the base born son of widow Jane Lilliott.

 

Jane also took care of:

  1. Charles Lilliot was baptised on 19 June 1768 in Henfield.  He was most probably the illegitimate son of Mary Lilliot sister of William.  (I was told some time ago that Jane looked after Charles, but I can't now remember who told me nor how they might have known.)
