William LILLIAT (c1570-?)

and Esther PARSON (1572-?)

 

William Lilliat and Esther Parson married by licence on 7 June 1599 in Angmering, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 26 May 1599 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that William Lilliatt was of Aldingbourne and Esther Person of Angmering.

William may have been baptised as Wiliam Leliot on 4 December 1563, the son of Thomas Leliot or on 14 January 1571/2 the son of Edward Leliet.  Both baptism took place in Aldingbourne, Sussex.

Hester Parson was baptised on 26 March 1572 in Angmering, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Parson.

 

William Lilliat and Esther Parson had 3 known children:

  1. Cyprian Lilliat was baptised on 5 August 1599 in Angmering.

    As Cyprian Liliat he married Alice Sergeant on 12 June 1625 in Angmering.

    Cyprian and Alice had the following children:

    1. George Liliat was baptised on 26 March 1626 in Angmering.

    2. Mary Liliat was baptised on 11 May 1628 in Angmering and buried there on 30 July 1628.

    3. Sara Liliat was baptised on 28 June 1629 in Angmering.

    4. Elizabeth Liliat was baptised on 20 July 1634 in Angmering.

  2. Thomas Lilliat was baptised on 1 March 1600/1 in Angmering.

  3. John Lilliat was baptised on 21 December 1606 in Angmering.

    As John Liliet he married Margery Hamper on 25 November 1630 in Washington, Sussex.  John was then of Angmering and Margery of Washington.

    John and Margery had the following children:

    1. Barbara Liliet was baptised on 9 April 1632 in Washington.  As Barbara Lillyet she married John Pannete on 24 April 1656 in Angmering.

    2. Margaret Liliat was baptised on 22 June 1634 in Angmering.

    3. John Lilliat was baptised on 28 August 1636 in Angmering.  His mother's name was recorded as Mary.

Might there have been a grandson named Henry Lylliott who settled in Shermanbury, Sussex from about 1663?

In 1641/2 the Protestation Returns were undertaken and in the parish of Angmering all males over the age of 18 years signed.  There were no Lelliotts or variants recorded in the list.
