Thomas LELIOT (1560-1600)

and Alice BRIDGER (c1560-1637)

Thomas Leliot and Alice Bridger married on 14 October 1582 in Felpham, Sussex.

Thomas Leliet may have been baptised on 27 February 1560 in Aldingbourne, Sussex and have been the son of Thomas Leliet.  The baptism register noted that his father was Thomas junior and he was from Lydsey.  As Thomas Leliot he was buried on 27 May 1600 in Felpham and the burial register noted that he was a weaver.

Alice Bridger's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

As Alice Leliot she may have married Thomas Burrie on 26 November 1601 in Felpham.  Thomas had previously married Alice Stente on 21 July 1600 in Felpham.  Alice was buried on 30 September 1601 in Felpham, 5 days after her infant son was buried.

Thomas may have been buried on 11 June 1608 in Felpham.

As Alice Burry, widow, she was most probably buried on 24 June 1637 in Felpham.

As Alice Liliot she may have married Richard Huntingford on 28 May 1605 in Westhampnett, or as Alice Lilliat she may have married Richard Huntingforde on 2 June 1605 in South Bersted (dates from the Sussex marriage index).

Richard and Alice may have had the following child:

    2. Thomas Lyllyott was baptised on 5 September 1624 in Felpham, the son of Thomas.  He may have been buried on 18 August 1632 in Felpham.  The burial register only recorded that Thomas Lilliott was buried.

    3. Joan Lilliott was baptised on 19 May 1632 in Felpham, the daughter of Thomas and Joan.  She was buried in Felpham on 22 June 1634 and the burial register noted that she was Joan daughter of Thomas Lilyote.

A Pagham and Tarring Peculiar marriage licence was issued on 11 May 1635 to Katherine Lilliatt and Thomas Hammond, which noted that she was a spinster and he a husbandman and they were both from Eartham, Sussex.  They married on the same day at St. Olave in Chichester, Sussex.

Thomas Hamman of Eartham signed the 1641/2 Protestation Return.

  7. Richard Leliot was baptised on 3 February 1600 in Felpham.  His godparents were Richard Leache, Thomas Wiat from Ancelton and Lettuce Wildes.  He may have been buried as Richard Lilliott on 24 April 1669 in Felpham.  (Richard Leache married Beatrice Ireland on 27 July 1600 in Felpham.  Lettice Wildes married Robert Bridger on 10 April 1600 in Felpham.)

Richard's name does not appear in the list of Felpham males over the age of 18 who signed the Protestation Return of 1641/2, and it was noted that all males of the parish had signed the return.  Nor did he sign the Barham, Middleton or Yapton returns, which again it was noted in all that all males had signed.  The South Bersted return is missing.
