John LILLYOT (1737-?)

and Ann THORPE (c1740-?)

 

John Lilliot and Ann Tharp married on 19 June 1763 in Poynings, Sussex.  Ann was then of Poynings.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  John was the brother of my 5x Great Grandfather, Samuel Lillyott.)

John Lillyot was baptised on 30 January 1736/7 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  He was the second son of Thomas Lillyot (c1705-1765) and Bridget Purvey (1709-1778).

Ann Thorpe's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

 

John Lillyot and Ann Thorpe had 6 known children:

  1. Thomas Leliot was baptised on 8 December 1765 in Edburton, Sussex.  The baptism register record his parents names as Thomas and Ann, but I believe his father's name was wrongly recorded.  Thomas Lelliot was buried on 20 January 1805 in Upper Beeding.

    As Thomas Liliot he may have married Susannah Morley by banns on 23 May 1785 in Poynings, Sussex.  He was then of Beeding and made his mark.  She was of Poynings and also made her mark.  The witnesses to their marriage were Roger Andrew (signed) and Sarah Simmonds (mark).  Another Thomas Lilliot was born in Henfield in 1762.

    Thomas and Susanna had the following children:

    1. John Lelliat was baptised on 14 May 1786 in Upper Beeding.

    2. Thomas Lelliot was baptised on 20 April 1788 in Upper Beeding.

    3. George Lelliot was baptised on 9 May 1790 in Upper Beeding and buried there as an infant on 16 May 1790.

    4. George Lelliot was baptised on 23 May 1792 in Upper Beeding.

    5. William Lelliot was baptised on 27 November 1796 in Upper Beeding.  An infant William Lelliot was buried in Upper Beeding on 13 November 1800.

    6. Harry Lelliot was baptised on 1 September 1799 in Upper Beeding.

  2. James Leliot was baptised on 10 April 1768 in Edburton.  When the 1841 census was recorded he was probably living with the family of his sister Barbara, when he was described as a 73 year old agricultural labourer.

  3. Barbara Lillyott was baptised on 6 February 1770 in Woodmancote, and admitted to the Church on 18 February 1770.  She married Thomas Ralf in 1789.  (They have their own page.)

  4. John Lelliott was baptised on 16 February 1772 in Woodmancote.  He married Elizabeth Carter in 1794.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Hannah Lellyett was baptised on 18 November 1774 in Woodmancote.

  6. William Lellyett was baptised on 11 May 1777 in Woodmancote.  He married Martha Nye in 1803.  (They have their own page.)
