James LELLIOTT (1866-1944)

and Esther Ann FULLER (1871-1951)

James Lelliott and Esther Ann Fuller married in the third quarter of 1897 in the Eastbourne, Sussex registration district.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

James Lelliot was baptised on 1 December 1866 in Patching, Sussex.  He was the son of William Lelliott (1837-1917) and Mary Austin (1838-1921).  The baptism register noted his father was a shepherd.  James died aged 77 years and his death was registered in the first quarter of 1944 in the Battle registration district.  He was 4 years old when the 1871 census was recorded and a 15 year old shepherd boy in 1881.  At the time of the 1891 census he was an unmarried 23 year old shepherd lodging in the home of Edward Formen at 41 New Elms in West Firle, Sussex.  His place of birth was then given as Patching.

Esther Ann Fuller was baptised on 27 August 1871 at St. Simon and St. Jude in East Dean, Eastbourne, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Mark Fuller (1836-1925) and Sophia Robbins (1838-1913).  The baptism register noted her father was a labourer.  She died aged 80 years and her death was registered in the fourth quarter of 1951 in the Battle registration district.  The 1881 census recorded she was 9 year old Annie Fuller, as scholar, and she was living with her parents in East Dean.  In 1891 she was a 19 year old general servant and living with her parents in East Dean.

At the time of the 1901 census the couple and 3 children (George, Sophia and Naomi) were living at 4 Drove Cottages in Patcham, Sussex.  James was then a 34 year old shepherd from Findon and Esther A. was 29 and from Eastdean.

When the 1911 census was recorded the couple and 9 children (George, Sophia, Naomi, Annie, Nellie, Willie, Mabel, Thomas and Walter) were living in 5 rooms at Pangdean near Hassocks, Sussex.  James was then a 45 year old shepherd and gave his place of birth as Mitchell Grove and Esther Ann was 40 and born in East Dean.  They said they had been married for 17 years and had had 10 children, all of who were living.

James Lelliott and Esther Ann Fuller had 10 children:
