Henry LILLIOT
(1808-1890)
and Jane STRINGER (c1829-?)

Henry Lilliott
and
Jane Stringer married in the third quarter of 1851 in the Lambeth
registration district. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Henry Lilliot was baptised on 30
October 1808 in Ashurst, Sussex, although the 1861 and 1871 census records
he was born in West Grinstead, Sussex. He was the son of
Peter Lilliot
(1761-1842) and
Mary Ozzever (c1765-1846). He died aged 81 years and his death
was registered in the third quarter of 1890 in the Horsham registration
district as Henry Lilliott. When the 1841 census was
recorded he was living at Brookwood in West Grinstead, along with his elder
sister, Rebecca Lelliott and their parents. Henry was then
described as a farmer. Henry was an Overseer of the Poor in West
Grinstead from 1846-47. He went to Woodmancote in Sussex between
1847-51 and then to Billingshurst, Sussex between 1854-61.
Jane Stringer was baptised on 1 February 1829 in West Grinstead, Sussex.

children, 1 of whom was Queen Stringer (1737-1828) who was Henry's
grandmother, another was
Jenner Stringer (1746-?) who was Jane's
grandfather.
The 1851 census records that Henry was a 42 year old married man, although
his wife was not at home on census night. He was then living at
Brookfields in Woodmancote, Sussex, along with his general servant Jane
Stringer who was 22 years old, her/their daughter Mary J.
Stringer aged 2, and 61 year old visitor Mary Stringer who was a
widow.

family were still living in Billingshurst in 1871 and Henry was an
agricultural labourer. Also with them on census night was 77 year old
married lodger John Rose.

the 1891 census Jane was a 62 year old widow and she was a visitor in the
home of
John
Lelliott and his wife
Eleanor Lelliott on Heath Common in Warminghurst, Sussex.
(Eleanor was Jane's sister-in-law.)
