Henry LILLIOTT
(1801-1887)
and Hannah HILLMAN (c1808-?)

Henry Lilliott
and
Hannah Hillman
married on 11 May 1828 in Ashurst, Sussex. Henry was a bachelor and
Hannah spinster. The witnesses to their marriage were George
Hillman and Mary Lilliott. (They were not my direct
ancestors.)
Henry Lelliott
was baptised on 1 November 1801 in
Ashurst. He was the son of
John Lelliott
(1764-1850) and Zilpha
Dumbrill (1771-?). Henry died aged 86 years and was buried on
19 March 1887 in Ashurst.
Hannah Hillman
was born in
about 1808 (as per the IGI). She died before 1851.
At the time of the 1841 census the couple and their 6 children were living
at New Warf in Ashurst. Henry was then an agricultural labourer.
In 1851 Henry was a 47 year old widower living with his 7 children in the
Parish House in Ashurst. His place of birth was then recorded as
Steyning in Sussex.
When the 1861 cenus was recorded widower Henry Lelliott aged 57 was
an agricultural labourer living with is daughter 22 year old Zilpha
Lelliott who was a dressmaker, in Parish House, Ashurst.

NOTES
A Jesse Lilliat was baptised on 10 September 1830
in Ashurst as the son of Henry and Harriet. I had
thought that his mother's name had been wrongly recorded, and that her name
should have been Hannah. But in 1881 his 71 year old widowed
mother, Harriet Lelliott, was living in his household at Lock Cottage
in Ashurst. Harriet had been born in Beeding in about 1810.
Jesse had married Caroline sometime before or about 1875 and by
1881 they had 3 children.
