Henry LILLIOTT
(1735-?)
and Mary CURTIS (c1735-?)

Henry Lilliott and Mary Curtis married on 18 October 1762 in Ashurst,
Sussex.
At that time he was a bachelor of Shermanbury and she a spinster of
Ashurst. The witnesses to their marriage were Henry
Burtenshaw and Thomas Muzzall. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Henry Lilliot was baptised on 18 December 1735 in Shermanbury,
Sussex.
He
was the son of
Henry Lelliott (1698-1774) and
Elizabeth Godley.
Mary Curtis's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
There was a
Mary Curtis born on 3 January 1727/8 and baptised on 13
January 1727/8 in Henfield, who was the daughter of
Abraham
Curtis (c1685-1771) and Sarah, but she married Richard
Sturt in 1748.
Henry Lilliott and Mary Curtis had 4 known children:
-
Sarah Lilliott was baptised on 28 August 1763 in Ashurst. She
was the main beneficiary of
John Hoadley's 1775 will in which she was named as Sarah Lelyott.
She may have died before 1783 as in the will of
Sarah Hoadlee, she states "since
Sarah Lilliott left me for I was Great Sufferer".
-
John Lilliot was baptised on 16 December 1764 in Ashurst.
John may have married
Zilpha Dumbrill
on 11 September 1793 in Ashurst. (They have their own page.)
But another
John Lilliot
was baptised in Ashurst on 15 March 1764 to
Peter Lilliot
(1732-?) and
Queen Stringer (1737-1829). One of the Johns may have died
aged 88 years in Portslade and have been buried on 23 May 1850 in Ashurst.
John and Zilpha had 2 sons and named them Peter and Henry.
-
Mary Lilliot was baptised on 6 December 1767 in Ashurst.
-
Henry Lilliot was privately baptised as he was in danger of death
on 2 March 1770 in Ashurst. He was buried on 30 September 1779 in
Ashurst and the burial register noted that Henry Lilliot
was a child.
All 4 children were named in the 1775 will of John Hoadley.
