Aaron LILIOT

and Ann WOOLDRIDGE (c1775-1850)

Aron Lilliot and Ann Barnet, widow,
married by banns on 15 May 1814 in Shipley, Sussex. They were both of
Shipley and both made their X marks. The witnesses to their marriage were Ann Lilliot (mark) and John Tomson (signed)
- I think that's his surname, but it is difficult to read his signature.
(They were not my direct ancestors. Aaron was the brother of my 4x
Great Grandmother.)
Aaron Liliot was baptised on 19 June 1791 in Wiston, Sussex. He
was the son of
Samuel
Lillyot (1748-1817) and
Elizabeth Serjeant (1748-?). Aaron
died aged 43 years and was
buried on 7 February 1835 in Wiston.
Ann Wooldridge's date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me. Ann may have died aged 75 years and have been
buried on 12 June 1850 in Wiston. The burial register recorded her
name as Ann Lelliott.
As Ann Wooldridge she previously married
William Barnet by licence on 19 August 1798 in Wiston.
The witnesses to their marriage were John Wooldridge
and James Simmons. Their marriage licence was
issued on 11 August by the Archdeaconry of Chichester and noted that
William was a 23 year old widower and farmer and Ann was a 28 year old
spinster. They were both of Wiston. William may have
previously married Elizabeth Botting by banns on 6
October 1795 in Ashurst, Sussex. He was then a bachelor of West
Grinstead and she a spinster of Ashurst.
In 1841 an Ann Lelliott aged 65 was living in the home
of 45 year old Charles Peachy and his 40 year old wife
Ann at Bunkton in the parish of Ashington. (Charles
Peachey married Ann Davey on 18 January 1820
in Twineham, Sussex. He was a bachelor and she a spinster and they
were both of Twineham. The witnesses to their marriage were
Edward Pickett and Sarah Peachey.)

In 1851 the family were living at Lower Buttington in Wiston and Aaron
was a farm labourer.

Mary Austin by banns on 5 May 1865 in
Sompting. He was then a bachelor and shepherd from Broadwater.
She was a spinster. Their fathers were named as Aaron
Lelliott a shepherd and James Austin a
labourer. The witnesses to their marriage were Daniel
Austin and Jane Austin.

She was a 12 year old scholar in 1851.

In 1851 she was an 8 year old scholar.

buried there on 28 April 1850.

Harriet Lelliott was baptised on 20 June 1850 in Wiston.
She died on 27 October 1941 in Christchurch, New Zealand. She was
a year old when the 1851 census was recorded.

John Cull in June 1874 in Weston Super Mare in Somerset.
John
was born about 1847 in Great Malvern, Worcestershire and died on 18 May
1915 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
William Barnet and Ann Wooldridge had 3 known children:

Steyning. He may have married Barbara Barnett on
22 May 1820 in Steyning. He was then of Ashurst.

Ashington.
As Harriet Barnett she married Thomas
Whittington by banns on 2 February 1822 in Thakeham, Sussex.
She was a spinster and he a bachelor and they were both of Thakeham.
The witnesses to their marriage were Aaron Lilliot and
Hannah Whittington.
Thomas may have been baptised on 11 January 1795 in Thakeham and have
been the son of Edward Whittington (1755-1821) and
Elizabeth Grant (?-1809).
When the 1841 census was recorded, 35 year old Harriet
Whitington was the head of her household in Thakeham.
Five of her sons were with her on census night.
In 1851, 49 year old Harriet was living at "Cottage in Street" in
Thakeham along with her 57 year old husband Edward Mears
who was a farm labourer. Also with them were 3 Whitington children
(Aaron, William and Reuben) and 2 Mears children (Alfred 15 and Abraham
5). They all gave their place of birth as Thakeham.
The GRO index records that an Edward Wells and
Harriet Whitington may have married in the second quarter of
1844 in the Thakeham registration district.
