John KITCHENHAM (1712-1793)

and Ann BALDWIN (1716-1770)

John Kitchenham and Ann Baldwin were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 18 July 1744 at the parish church of St. Michael and All Angels in Withyham, Sussex, although they were both then of Wadhurst, Sussex.

John Kitchenham was baptised on 29 May 1712 in Wadhurst, Sussex.  He was the eldest son of John Kitchenham (c1690-1718) and Mary Beall (c1690-1750).  At the time of his baptism his father was described as a glover.  John was buried on 21 November 1793 in the churchyard of St. Peter and St. Paul in Wadhurst.  The burial register noted that he was John Kitcherman, senior, a poor labourer.

Ann Baldwin was baptised privately as Anne Balding on 2 December 1716 in Wadhurst, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Balding and Anne Bellingham.  She was buried on 4 June 1770 in Wadhurst and the burial register records that she was the wife of John Kitchenham.

John Kitchenham and Ann Baldwin had 5 known children:

  1. John Kitchenham was baptised on 3 July 1746 in Wadhurst, and buried there on 28 August 1748.  He was buried as John Kitchingham.

  2. Anne Kitchingham was baptised on 4 August 1748 in Wadhurst.

  3. 5 97 William Kitchenham, my 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 16 January 1750/1 in Wadhurst.  He married Mary Tester in 1777.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Elizabeth Kitchinham was baptised on 19 August 1755 in Wadhurst.

  5. John Kitchenham was baptised in November 1757 in Wadhurst.  Only his father's name was recorded against his baptism.  He may have died aged 50 years and have been buried on 22 November 1808 in Goudhurst, Kent.

Did John and Ann also have the following daughter:

Mary Kitchenham married William Smith on 10 December 1782 in Wadhurst.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Wadhurst.  The witnesses to the marriage were John Kitchenham, Mary Summers and Susanna Blundell.
