John KITCHENHAM (c1690-1718)

and Mary BEALL (c1690-1750)

John Kitchenham and Mary Beall were my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 2 April 1711 at the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Wadhurst, Sussex.

John Kitchenham's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was a glover of Wadhurst.  John was buried on 18 June 1718 in Wadhurst.

Mary Beall's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me, but at the earliest 1672 and the latest about 1694 - see below for details of 4 possible baptisms.  She may have been buried on 21 April 1750 in Wadhurst, but the burial register just records that Mary Kitchenham, widow, was buried.

John Kitchenham and Mary Beall had 4 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Chitchingham was baptised on 7 November 1710 in Thurnham, at which time her parents were of Wadhurst.

  2. John Kitchenham, my 6x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 29 May 1712 in Wadhurst.  He married Ann Baldwin in 1744.  (They have their own page.)

  3. William Kitchenham was baptised aged 3 years on 18 June 1718 in Wadhurst.  He married Mary Dadswell in 1743.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Sarah Kitchenham was baptised aged 17 weeks on 18 June 1718 in Wadhurst.

A John Kitchenham was baptised on 16 April 1679 in Leigh, Kent the son of William Kitchenham and Elizabeth Thomas.

Mary Beall Baptisms:

  1. Mary Beall baptised on 9 March 1679 in Wadhurst the daughter of John Beall and Mary Budd.

  2. Mary Beall baptised on 3 October 1680 in Wadhurst the daughter of John Beall, the shingler, and Ann.

  3. Mary Beall baptised on 8 April 1692 in Wadhurst the daughter of Thomas Beall and Mary Young.

  4. Mary Beall baptised on 14 September 1692 in Wadhurst the daughter of William Beall and Mary.  The Sussex Family History Group's marriage index records that William Beale married Elizabeth Funnell by banns on 3 November 1691.  Could Mary and Elizabeth be one and the same?

The 1711 marriage of Mary Beall to John Kitchenham would seem to be the only Mary Beall marriage in the Wadhurst area at that time.  A Mary Beale married Richard Stevens on 28 June 1699 in Bodiam, Sussex, but she was said to be of Peasmarsh, Sussex.  Another Mary Beale married John West on 21 December 1704 in Brede, Sussex and she was of Salehurst, Sussex.  And yet another Mary Beal married David Kennard on 30 November 1709 in East Farleigh, Kent.
