James KING (c1730-?)

and Mary DUNK (c1730-?)

James King and Mary Dunk married on 19 July 1756 in Hawkhurst, Kent.  He was then of Heathfield, Sussex and Mary of Hawkhurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Dunk and William Exeter.  The IGI records they married on 19 July 1755 in Heathfield, whereas the Sussex marriage index has 1756 in Hawkhurst.

James King may have been baptised on 24 November 1728 in Salehurst and have been the son of James King and Sarah Chambers.  Or he may have been baptised on 16 March 1734 in Warbleton, the son of James King and Sarah.  (I'm not sure if there was 1 or 2 couples named James and Sarah.)

Mary Dunk's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

James King and Mary Dunk had 5 known children:

  1. James King was baptised on 7 October 1759 in Salehurst.  He may have married Sarah Avard in 1781, but he did have a cousin named James who was born in 1755.

  2. Ann King was baptised on 16 August 1761 in Salehurst.

  3. John King was baptised on 14 April 1763 in Salehurst.

  4. Sarah King was baptised on 14 December 1766 in Salehurst.  She may have been the mother of an illegitimate daughter:

    1. Frances King was baptised on 7 January 1798 in Salehurst.

  5. Elizabeth King was baptised on 21 July or August 1768 in Salehurst.
