James KING (c1650-?)

and Ann HAIL (c1655-?)

James King and Ann Hail were married on 29 November 1677 in Burwash, Sussex.  Against the baptisms of their children, their forenames were spelt Jacobi and Annae.

James King's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might he have been the son of Thomas King and Mary Campany who married in Brightling in 1647, or of John Kinge and Ann Groomebridge who married in Burwash in 1652?

Ann Hail's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

James King and Ann Hail had 6 known children:

  1. Elizabeth King was baptised on 14 September 1679 in Burwash.

  2. Maria King was baptised on 23 January 1681/2 in Burwash.

  3. Thomas King was baptised on 2 September 1683 in Burwash.  The Burwash burial register records that a Thomas son of James King was buried on 28 March 1704/5.  Or might he have married Mary Austen Foster in 1719?

  4. An infant daughter was baptised and buried on 30 March 1690 in Burwash.

  5. William King was baptised on 16 August 1691 in Burwash.  Did he marry Elizabeth or Mary?  There was another William King born in 1697.

  6. Samuel King was baptised on 12 October 1692 in Burwash.

A William King was baptised on 2 March 1707/8 in Burwash.  The baptism register notes he was baseborn, but did not record his mother's name.
