A George Highland married Elizabeth Cockes on 1 April 1716
in Iden, Sussex, at which time they were both of Iden. They had 2
daughters: Mary Highland in 1717 and Elizabeth Highland
in 1719. And there was a George Highland who married
Elizabeth Jordan on 1 April 1716 in Maidstone, Kent - yes, both
married on 1 April 1716! They had a daughter Elizabeth Highland
in 1724. Which means there were 3 couples named George and
Elizabeth around at about the same time.

William Highlands married Sarah Hapgood on 26 December 1769 in
Ringmer. They had the following children:

Hyland and wife Sarah. On 10 January 1770 William and
Sarah, of East Hoathly, were granted a Settlement Certificate by the
Overseers of Laughton.
George Hyland married Mary Arnold on 10
April 1785 in Laughton. He was then a bachelor of Ripe and she a
spinster of Laughton. They both made their (X) marks. The
witnesses to their marriage were Daniel Finch (marked) and
John Vine (signed).
Mary Hylands of Laughton died aged 53 years and was buried
on 15 July 1818 in Laughton, therefore, born about 1765.
George and Mary may have had the following children:

parents were named as George and Ann (should his mother's name have been
Mary?). He was buried as an infant on 10 June 1791 in Ringmer.

Mary Hylands was baptised on 21 October 1792 in Laughton. Her
parents were named as George and Mary. Was she buried as
Mary Highlands on 25 October 1797 in Laughton?

Harriet Hylands may have been part of this family.
She was of Laughton when she died aged 18 years and was buried on 21
April 1814 in Laughton.

in Rye, Sussex. She was then a spinster.

licence dated 17 June 1689. It was issued by the Archdeaconry of

Archdeaconry of Lewes, and strangely, it recorded William was of
Ditchling! Surety for the licence was provided by William himself
and John Daw of Dallington. They had the following child:
