George HYLAND (c1620-?)

and Ann SELMES (1622-?)

George Hyland and Ann Selmes married on 2 February 1642/3 in Brightling, Sussex.

George Hyland's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might he have been the son of Thomas Hiland and Silvestra Lockyer who married on 31 May 1613 in Dallington, Sussex?

Anne Selmes was baptised on 25 August 1622 in Brighlting.  She was the daughter of Nicholas Selmes and Joan Dennett.

George Hyland and Ann Selmes had 6 known children:

  1. Thomas Highland was baptised on 9 May 1647 in Dallington.  He married Susan Clifton in 1669.  (They have their own page.)

  2. John Hyghland was baptised on 20 January 1649/50 in Dallington.  Did he marry Ann Hunt on 13 October 1674 in Burwash?  Or maybe he married Sarah Bull on 21 March 1677/8 in Dallington.

  3. Ann Hyland was baptised on 7 December 1651 in Etchingham, Sussex.  She may have married John Moone on 7 November 1671 in Ticehurst.  He was then of Frant, Sussex.  However, there was another Ann born in 1651 in Brightling and another in 1644 also in Brightling.

  4. William Hiland was baptised on 5 November 1654 in Etchingham.

  5. George Hiland was born on 26 February 1656/7 and baptised on 15 March 1656/7 in Etchingham, Sussex.

  6. George Hiland was baptised on 27 January 1658/9 in Etchingham.  He may have married Margaret before or about 1685.  (They have their own page.)
