Walter Owen Humphrey and Mary Pollington
married in the second quarter of 1895 in the Ticehurst registration
district. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Walter Owen Humphrey was born in the fourth quarter of 1868
in Wadhurst, Sussex. He was the son of Owen Humphrey
(c1832-1895) and Barbara Curwen (1832-1917). He died
aged 70 years and his death was registered in the first quarter of 1939 in
the Uckfield registration district. When the 1871 census was recorded
he was 2 years old and living with his parents at Bradle's Oak Cottage,
Wadhurst. The 1881 census recorded that Owen was a 12 year old scholar
and living with his parents at Flattenden Cottage, Wadhurst. In 1891
Owen was an unmarried 22 year old farm labourer and living with his parents
at Lodge Hill Cottage in Wadhurst.
Mary Matilda Pollington was born in the second quarter 1875
in Mark Cross, Sussex and baptised on 6 June 1875 in Mayfield, Sussex. She was the daughter of
Pollington (1840-1889) and
(1849-?). The baptism register noted her father was a labourer. She may have died aged 68 years and her death registered as
Mary J. Humphrey in the second quarter of
1943 in the Uckfield registration district. When the 1881 census was
recorded Mary M. Pollington was a 5 year
old scholar and living with her parents at Scrag Oak Farm Cottage in
Wadhurst. In 1891 Mary was 16 years old and living with her widowed
mother and siblings are Barricks Cottages in Wadhurst. Her place of
birth was then given as Rotherfield.
The 1901 census recorded that the couple and 4 children (Elizabeth M., Owen,
Frank and Dora Mabel) were living at Flattenden Cottage, Wadhurst.
Owen was then a 32 year old shepherd and Mary was 25. They were all
born in Wadhurst. Mary's widowed mother was living in the next
property on the enumerators route.
In 1911 the couple and 6 children (Lizzie, Owen, Frank, Dora Mabel, George
and Albert James) were living at Beals Oaks, Wadhurst. Walter Owen was
a 42 year old farm labourer and Mary was 34. They mentioned they had
been married for 16 years and had had 6 children, all of whom were living.
Mary's place of birth was given as Mark Cross and the rest of the family
were all born in Wadhurst.

Elizabeth M. Humphrey was born about
1896 in Wadhurst. She was 5 years old in 1901. In 1911,
Lizzy Humphrey was 16 years old.
Owen Humphrey was born about 1897 in Wadhurst. He
was 4 years old in 1901. In 1911 he was 14 years old. He
died aged 70 years and his death was registered in the second quarter of
1967 in the Hastings registration district.
Frank Humphrey was born about 1898 in Wadhurst. He
was 3 years old in 1901. In 1911 he was 13 years old.
Dora Mabel Humphrey was born in 1900 in Wadhurst.
She died in 1981. When the 1901 census was recorded she was 9
months old. At the time of the 1911 census she was 10 years old.
Dora Mabel married Reginald John Dunmall in 1934.
Reginald John was born in 1909 in Wadhurst and was the son of
Dunmall (1863-1950) and
Kate Louisa Holden
(1879-1975). He died in 1982. When the 1911 census was
recorded he was 2 years old and living with his parents and elder
siblings at 2 Savages Pit, Wadhurst.
Reginald and Dora had the following son:
Robert George Dunmall (1937-1995).
Robert married Joan Inge.
Joan's parents were
Percy George Inge (1909-1953) and
Dorothy Baker (1905-1951).
Robert and Joan have the following son:
Paul Stephen Dunmall (Paul and I share common
ancestors, Edward Dadswell
(1659-1736) and Elizabeth Elliott
(1649-1737), who were my 8xggp's and Paul's 7xggp's.)
George Humphrey was born about 1902 in Wadhurst. He
was 9 years old in 1911.
Albert James Humphrey was born in the third quarter of
1910 in Wadhurst. He was 9 months old at the time of the 1911
