This is the last
Will and Testament of me
John
Howell of Brighthelmston in the County of Sussex Innkeeper made
published and declared in manner and form following (that is to say) first I
give devise and bequeath unto my wife Hannah Howell all that my
leasehold messuage or tenement with the appurterants situate [---] and being
on the East Cliffe in Brighthelmston aforesiad now in the tenure or
occupation of Charles Bartholomew to hold the [---] unto my said wife
and to her assigns for so many years of the term for which hold the same as
she may happen to live and from and immediately after her decease I give
devise and bequeath the same unto my nephew John Howell Mockford (son
of my sister Ann Mockford) his exors [---] and assigns for and during
or such term or number of years as shall be then therein to come and [---]
at the time of the decease of my wife subject nevertheless to the payment of
the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to Catherine
Howell (daughter of my Brother William Howell) and to the payment
of the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money to my nephew John Moore
Howell (son of my late brother George Howell) to be paid to them
respectively within twelve calendar months next after my nephew John
Howell Mockford his exors [---] or assigns shall come unto possession of
the said messuage or tenement and premises and I do hereby charge the same
with the payment thereof accordingly Also I give devise and bequeath unto my
said wife Hannah Howell the remaining sum of the four hundred and
fifty pounds that may become due to me of the Lease of a messuage or
tenement and premises in Saint James Street in Brighthelmston aforesaid now
in the occupation of Miss Wade for her [---] or assigns also I give
devise and bequeath unto my said wife Hannah Howell her exors [---]
or assigns the lease of messuage or tenement in Brighthelmston aforsaid
wherein I now reside commonly called or known by the name of the New Ship
with my eight [---] and interest therein All the rest residue and remainder
of my Estate and Effects both Real and Personal whatsoever and wheresoever
form and after the payment of my just debts legacies and funeral expenses
and the costs and charges of proving and executing this my will I give
devise and bequeath unto my said wife for her own use and benefit And lastly
I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my wife Hannah Howell and my
mother Ann Howell Executrixes to this my will and I hereby revoke and
make void all former and other will and wills by me at any time heretofore
made and declare this to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I
the said John Howell the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal
the twenty eighth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventeen John Howell (LS) ~ signed sealed published and
declared by the said testator John Howell as and for this last will
and testament in the presence of us who in the presence of him and at his
request and in the presence of him and at his request and in the presence of
each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses ~ Thomas Dean

29th August 1823 before the wor--] Jesse Addams dr or law @ [---] by
the oath of Hannah Howell widow the relict one of the Excutrix to
whom admon was granted having been first sworn duly to admins Power [---] to
Ann Howell widow the mother the other Excutrix when one shall apply
for the same.
