Thomas HOWELL (1711-?)
and Martha NOBLE (1714-?)

Thomas
Howell and Martha Noble may
have been my 6x Great Grandparents. (Click
here to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 30 November 1736
in Brighton, Sussex.
Thomas
Howell was baptised on 30
January 1710/11 in Brighton. He was the son of
John Howell
(1684-?) and Anne
Plaw (1689-?). He died after 1751.
Martha Noble
was baptised on 8 October 1714 in Brighton. She was the
daughter of
George Noble (c1675-?) and
Sarah
Oulder.
Thomas Howell and Martha
Noble had 6 known children:
-
Thomas Howell was baptised on 23 October 1737 in Brighton.
Thomas married Anne Marsh on 24 December 1760 at St. Nicholas in
Brighton. He was then a bachelor and described as Thomas, junior.
Ann was a spinster and they were both of Brighton. There was another
Thomas Howell baptised in 1732, but I believe he married in 1756.
Thomas and Ann had the following children:
-
Martha Howel was baptised on 18 October 1761 in Brighton.
-
Thomas Howel was baptised on 9 October 1763 in Brighton.
Thomas, or the other Thomas, may next have married Elizabeth Vezie
by licence on 2 April 1771 in Brighton. They had the following
children:
-
John Howell was baptised on 17 July 1771 in Brighton.
-
Elizabeth Howell was baptised on 5 August 1773 in Brighton.
-
Hannah Howell was baptised on 24 May
1775 in Brighton.
Hannah may have married
John Howell
by licence on 28 August 1802 in Brighton. John was a bachelor and Hannah
a spinster. They were both of Brighton and both signed their names. The
witnesses were
George Howell and someone whose
name I can’t read. John died in 1823 and left a will, in which he
mentioned his wife Hannah, sister Ann Mockford, brother William
Howell and late brother George Howell. John was then an
innkeeper at the New Ship Inn in Brighton. BUT, she did have a
cousin by the name of
Hannah
Howell who was born in 1782. Also the Hannah married to John
may have died aged 59 in 1829, therefore, born about 1770.
-
George Howell was baptised on 24 February 1738/9 in Brighton.
He married Ann Bradford on 27 November 1760 at St. Nicholas in
Brighton. Anne was baptised on 14 January 1739/40 in Brighton and
was the daughter of Nathaniel Bradford and Elizabeth Covey.
-
Martha Howell was baptised on 1 April 1744 in Brighton and probably
died young.
-
Mary Howell was baptised on 26 February 1747/8 in Brighton.
Did she marry Benjamin Bowley on 13 August 1769, or John Sergant
on 22 October 1771, or John Hills on 19 December 1771? All
marriages at St. Nicholas, Brighton.
-
Martha Howell was baptised on 11 June 1749 in Brighton and buried
there on 16 October 1757.
-
John Howell, my possible 5x Great Grandfather,
was baptised on 28 July 1751 in Brighton.
He married
Sybil Westmore
(c1751-1814) in 1776. (They have their own page.)
