Richard HOLMAN (1763-1809)

and Amy COMBER (1765-1811)

Richard Holman and Amy Cumber married on 26 October 1785 in Worth, Sussex.  At the time Richard was a bachelor and Amy a spinster, and they were both of Worth.  The witnesses to the marriage were Philip Denman and Mark Brooker.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Amy was the grand niece of my 6x great grandmother, Anne Comber.)

Richard Holman was baptised on 8 May 1763 in Worth.  He was the son of John Holman (1718-1797) and Sarah Harland (1731-1806).  He was buried on 9 June 1809 in Worth (or was it 1808?).  There was another Richard Holman baptised on 20 March 1763 in Worth, the son of Thomas Holman and Ruth Page.

Amy Comber was born on 1 April 1765 and baptised privately on 3 April 1765 in Ardingly, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Thomas Comber (1729-1807) and Amy Creasy (1732-?).  She was buried on 16 February 1811 in Worth.

Richard Holman and Amy Comber had 8 known children:

Ann Holman was baptised on 28 April 1786 in Worth.  She may have married Henry Humphery by banns on 15 April 1807 in Worth.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Worth.  The witnesses to the marriage were John Holman and Frances Burgess.  When the 1851 census was recorded the couple were living in Horne, Surrey, Henry was a 68 year old labourer and Ann was said to be 67 years old, and they were both born in Worth.

  2. Thomas Holeman was baptised on 3 August 1788 in Worth.  He may have married Amelia Potter by banns on 17 June 1813 in Worth.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Worth.  The witnesses to the marriage were John Holman and Sarah Vallance.

  3. Richard Holeman was baptised on 31 July 1791 in Worth.
