William Holder and Esther Mills married by
banns on 20 June 1829 in Pulborough, Sussex. The witnesses to
their marriage were Ann Holder and James Ovington.
(They were not my direct ancestors.)
William Holder was baptised on 27 April 1806 in Pulborough.
He was the son of
Richard Holder (1780-1866) and Ann Cheeseman.
Richard died aged 69 years and was buried on 27 February 1875 in Pulborough.
Esther Mills was baptised on 13 April 1808 in Billingshurst,
Sussex. She was the daughter of
Richard Mills
(1777-1854) and
Phebe White (1778-1849). Esther died aged 68 years and was buried in Pulborough on 1 April 1875.
When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and their children were
living at Pot Common in Pulborough, next door to
Allen
Older and his wife Sarah. William was then an
agricultural labourer. Also with them on census night was 25 year
old Thomas Older who was an agricultural labourer. Thomas
was most probably William's younger brother.
In 1861 the couple and 4 of their children were living in Lower Street,
Pulborough. William was a 55 year old agricultural labourer and
Esther was 54. Their next door neighbours one side were 72 year
old Jane Doick
and her son James Doick and to the other side the
family of 56 year old
William Herbert.

He was 11 years old in 1841.

Harriet Holder was baptised on 10 December 1831 in Pulborough.
She was 9 years old in 1841.

Ann Holder was baptised on 11 June 1834 in Pulborough. In
1841 she was 6 yeas old. She was an unmarried 24 year old
spinster in 1861 and living with her parents.

Sarah Holder was baptised on 11 December 1836 in Pulborough and
buried there on 30 December 1845. When the 1841 census was
recorded she was 4 years old.

William Holder was born about 1838. He was buried on 25
May 1844 in Pulborough. He was 2 years old when the 1841 census
was recorded.

Thomas Holder was baptised on 18 November 1841 in Pulborough.

Henry Holder was baptised on 21 July 1844 in Pulborough.
He was said to have been a 14 year old agricultural labourer in
1861.

Eliza Holder was baptised on 30 May 1847 in Pulborough.
She was a 12 year old scholar in 1861.

Lucy Holder was born about 1850 in Pulborough. She was 10
years old in 1861.
