Solomon OLDER (1716-?)

and Elizabeth ELLIOTT (c1725-?)

 

Solomon Holder and Elizabeth Elliott married on 12 October 1746 in Rudgwick, Sussex.  She was then from Billingshurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Solomon Older was baptised on 3 June 1716 in West Chiltington, Sussex.  He was the son of Richard Older.

Elizabeth Elliott's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

 

Solomon Older and Elizabeth Elliott had 4 known children:

  1. Thomas Older was baptised on 29 September 1747 in West Chiltington.  Thomas may have been buried on 14 August 1812 in Pulborough.  (Another Thomas Older was born in 1730 and may have died in Pulborough in 1792.)

    Thomas married Mary Elphick on 29 July 1770 in Thakeham, Sussex.

    Mary was baptised on 5 July 1747 in West Chiltington and was the daughter of Edward Elphick and Ann Murrell.  She may have died aged 70 years and have been buried on 24 April 1819 in Pulborough.

    A removal order was issued to Thomas and Mary on 30 July 1770, removing them from Thakeham to Pulborough.

    Thomas and Mary had the following known child:

    1. Elizabeth Holder was baptised on 6 November 1770 in Pulborough.

      Elizabeth married William King by banns on 14 August 1789 in Pulborough.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Mary Older (it was noted that she was the bride's mother), George Jones and Nicholas Warner.

      William and Elizabeth had the following child:

      1. Sarah King was baptised on 13 June 1790 in Pulborough.

  2. Hannah Older was baptised on 14 November 1750 in West Chiltington.

    Hannah may have married William Southon by banns on 29 September 1771 in Horsham.  He was a husbandman and they were both of Horsham.  The witnesses to their marriage were Charles Southon and Thomas Smith.

  3. Betty Older was baptised on 13 May 1753 in Billingshurst.  She most probably married twice, first to Henry Bennett in 1774 and then to Thomas Smart in 1784.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Sarah Older was baptised on 10 August 1755 in Billingshurst.

    Sarah may have married William Jays by banns on 13 May 1777 in West Chiltington.  She was then of Billingshurst and he was of West Chiltington.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Adams and Elizabeth Older.  (Another Sarah Older was born in Pulborough in 1758.)
