John Holder

were married in the fourth quarter of
1892 in the Steyning registration district.. (They were not my direct
ancestors).
John
Holder was baptised on 24 April 1870 in Woodmancote, Sussex,
as John Heffern the son of Mary Ann Heffern. His father
was most probably
Henry Holder (1832-1915) and his mother
Mary Ann Peters
(1837-1909). He died in 1952. In 1891 he was a 21 year old
agricultural labourer living with his parents in Bilsborough Lane,
Woodmancote.
Sarah Ann
Jenner was baptised on 28 February 1869 in Wivelsfield, Sussex. She
was the daughter of Amos Jenner (1845-1931) and Emma Osborne
(1843-1907). She died in 1956. At the time of the 1871 census
she was 2 years old an living with her parents in Wivelsfield. Her
father was then an agricultural labourer. When the 1891 census was
recorded she was an unmarried 22 year old general domestic servant, visiting
the home soon to be parents-in-law. Her grandparents were
James Jenner (1813-?) and Ann Mitchell (1813-?),
and John Osborne (1806-?) and Harriet Smith
(1821-1902).
When the 1901 census was recorded the couple and 4 children were living at
Eastout in Henfield. John was then a 31 year old market gardener and
Sarah was 32. They also had a boarder with them on census night, 35
year old

Silverson who was single and a market gardener.

Jenner had 7 known children:

William Holder
was born in the third quarter of 1893 in Woodmancote and died in 1917. He was buried in Woodmancote.
At the time of the 1901 census he was 7 years old.

Annie Holder was born in the first quarter of 1895 in Henfield.
She was 6 years old in 1901.

Albert Holder was born in the fourth
quarter of 1896 in Henfield. He died in 1970 and was buried in Woodmancote. He was a gardener and worked at a number of the large
houses around Henfield. In 1901 he was 4 years old.
Albert married
Louisa Agnes Scutt in 1921 in Bolney.
Louisa was born in
1898 and was the daughter of
Frederick Scutt (1863-1938) and
Ellen Lousie Hawkes (c1862-1916). Louisa died in 1980.

Edith Holder was born on 23 January 1898 in Henfield. When
the 1901 census was recorded she was 3 years old.
Edith married William Archie Holden on 30 October 1920 in
Woodmancote.
William Archibald Holden was born about 1883 in Steyning,
Sussex, and was the son of Albert Holden (c1837-?) and
Susannah Tyler Chandler (c1850-?). When the 1891
census was recorded he was 7 years old and living with his parents in
Coxham Cottage in Steyning. His father was then an agricultural
labourer. In 1901 he was attending school Kensington, London,
where he was said to be 17 years old and harness making.
