Edward HOADLEY (c1570-1635)

and Mildred (c1580-?)

 

Edward Hoadley left a will in 1635, at which time he was of East Grinstead, Sussex.  He married twice.  His second marriage was to Mildred Heape by licence on 23 May 1615 in Withyham, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 15 May 1615 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, and that recorded he was a yeoman of Rotherfield and she a widow of Withyam.  Previously as Mildred Corbett she may have married James Heape on 19 April 1596 in Westham, Sussex.

Edward Hodley may have been born about 1563 in Rotherfield and have been the son of Thomas Hodley and Annes Baker.

 

Edward Hoadley and his first wife had 4 known children:

  1. Robert Hoadley was the eldest son.

  2. Thomas Hoadley

  3. Jane Hoadley was a widow when her father made his will.  She married John Selliard.  Their marriage licence was issued on 18 August 1628 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that she was a spinster of Rotherfield and he a gent of Ightham, Kent.  As Jane Selliard she married William Shawe by licence on 8 August 1637 at St. John sub Castro in Lewes.  Their marriage licence was also issued on 8 August 1637 and recorded that she was a widow and he a beer brewer and they were both of East Grinstead.

  4. Alice Hoadley was baptised on 8 May 1609 in Rotherfield.  She married John Birch by licence dated 23 July 1631 and issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes.  She was then a spinster of Rotherfield and he a yeoman of Mayfield.

 

Edward Hoadley and Mildred had 7 known children:

  1. Margarett Hodely was baptised on 9 May 1616 in Rotherfield.

  2. Mildred Hoadley was baptised on 27 December 1617 in Rotherfield.

  3. Edward Hoadley was under 21 in 1635.

  4. John Hoadley was under 21 in 1635.

  5. Anne Hoadley was baptised on 10 February 1621 in Rotherfield.

  6. Mary Hodley was baptised on 28 March 1624 in Rotherfield.

  7. Joane Hodely was baptised on 22 June 1628 in Rotherfield.
