William HOAD (c1770-?)

and Lilly CLARK (c1780-?)

William Hoad and Lilly Clark married by banns on 2 December 1801 in Salehurst, Sussex.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Marchant and John Heathfield.  Did William previously marry Sarah Foster on 7 August 1788 in Salehurst?  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Hoad's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might he have been baptised on 7 June 1761 in Salehurst and have been the son of David Hoad and Judith Weller who married on 6 January 1754 in Salehurst?

Lilly Clark's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

William Hoad and Lilly Clark had 3 known children:

  1. William Hoad was born in 1801 in Salehurst.

William married Mary Boots by banns on 16 April 1825 in Salehurst.  He was then 24 years old and she was a 20 year old spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Elizabeth Boots, William Glyde and Edward Heathfield.

  2. Mary Hoad was baptised on 4 September 1804 in Salehurst.

    Mary had and illegitimate daughter:

    1. Catherine Hoad was baptised on 26 December 1824 in Salehurst.  She married Thomas Willard in 1847.  (They have their own page.)

Mary married David Roberson by banns on 7 May 1827 in Salehurst.

David was born about 1787 in High Halden, Kent.  He may have been born on 1 June 1787 and his birth registered at the Honey Lane Baptist Chapel in Tenterden, and have been the son of Richard Roberson and Mary.

When the 1841 census was recorded the couple and 6 children were living in Sandhurst, Kent.  David was a 53 year old blacksmith and Mary was 37.

In 1851 the couple and 4 children were living in at Alms House in Sandhurst.  David was a 64 year old blacksmith and Mary was 47.

David and Mary had the following children:

    1. Thomas Roberson was born about 1828.  He was 13 years old in 1841.

    2. Tabitha Roberson was baptised on 18 April 1830 in Salehurst.  She was 11 years old in 1841.

    3. Adelaide Roberson was born about 1833.  She was 8 years old in 1841.

    4. Sophia Robertson was baptised on 16 May 1837 in Goudhurst.  The 1841 census records that she was 6 years old.  She was 14 years old in 1851 and the eldest of her siblings living at home.  The census records that she was born in Sandhurst.

    5. Harriet Roberson was born about 1837-40 in Sandhurst.  She was 4 years old in 1841.  The 1851 census records she was 11 years old.

    6. Eleanor Roberson was baptised on 11 October 1840 in Goudhurst.  At the time of the 1841 census she was a year old.  In 1851 she was 10 years old.

    7. William Roberson was born about 1843 in Sandhurst.  He was 8 years old in 1851.

  3. Lucy Hoad was baptised on 15 February 1807 in Salehurst.
