Francis HICKS
(c1650-?)
and Mary STANDEN (?-?)

Francis Hicks
and
Mary Standen
may have been my 8x Great
Grandparents. They married on 9 June 1673 in Benenden, Kent, and then
settled in Salehurst, Sussex.
Francis Hicks's date and place of
birth/baptism are unknown, to me. Might he have been baptised on 2
February 1651 in Eastbourne, Sussex, the son of Francis Hicks?
A Francis Hicks, bachelor of Salehurst, married Mary Gray,
spinster of Bodiam, by licence on 15 April 1641 in Bodiam, Sussex. And
then a Francis Hicks was buried at St. Mary's in Eastbourne on 27
February 1660 and a Mary Hickes was buried there on 4 May 1664.
Francis Hicks of Salehurst left a will in 1675.
Mary Standen's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
Francis Hicks
and Mary Standen had 6 known children and maybe more:
-
Elizabeth Hixe
was baptised on 9 October 1673 in Salehurst. The baptism register
records her mother's name as Joan.
-
John Hixe
was baptised on 4 May 1675 in Salehurst.
-
Hanna
Hixe, my possible 7x Great
Grandmother,
was baptised on 14 February 1678/9
in Salehurst. She may have married
Thomas
Butler in 1703. (They have their own page.)
-
Elizabeth Hixe
was baptised on 25 February 1680/1 in Salehurst.
-
Elizabeth Hixe
was baptised on 5 July 1683 in Salehurst.
-
Sarah Hixe
was baptised on 29 October 1685 in Salehurst. She may have married
Thomas Johnson on 20 July 1703 in Salehurst. He was then of
Hawkhurst.
-
Francis Hicks may have been part of
this family. He left a will proved on 15 October 1755, at which time
he was described as a draper of Salehurst. He may have married
Elizabeth Chittenden on 7 July 1715 in Mountfield, Sussex. He
was then said to have been of Salehurst and she of Hawkhurst.
John Hicks
of Salehurst left a will in 1692.
Jane Hicks
of Salehurst left a will in 1712.
Hannah
Hicks of Salehurst left a will in 1742.
