Thomas HARRISON (c1675-1721)

and Mary JACKMAN (1677-?)

and Hannah MARTIN (1676-?)

Thomas Harrison and Hannah Martin were my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 17 June 1706 at St. Mary's in Guildford, Surrey.  He was then of West Clandon, Surrey and she of East Clandon, Surrey.  Thomas had previously married Mary Jackman on 15 January 1699/1700 at Holy Trinity in Guildford, Surrey.  They were both then of West Clandon, Surrey.

Thomas Harrison's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 16 June 1721 in West Clandon.  Thomas was a labourer.  Might he have been born on 7 January 1655/6 and baptised on 17 January 1655/6 in West Clandon, the son of Thomas Harrison?  Or was he baptised on 20 June 1669 in Albury, Surrey, the son of Thomas Harrison?  (Albury borders West Clandon to the south.)

Mary Jackman may have been baptised on 26 January 1676/7 in Puttenham, Surrey and have been the daughter of John Jackman and Joan Trigg (1649-?).

Hanna Martin was baptised on 17 December 1676 in East Clandon, Surrey.  She was the daughter of John Martin and possibly either Joan Watford or Susanna Stonard.

Thomas Harrison and Mary Jackman had 4 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Harrison was baptised on 16 June 1700 in West Clandon.

  2. Robert Harrison was baptised on 16 September 1701 in West Clandon.

  3. Thomas Harrison was born on 27 January 1703/4 and baptised on 6 February 1703/4 in West Clandon.

  4. John Harrison was baptised on 30 April 1705 in West Clandon and buried there as an infant on 19 June 1705.

Thomas Harrison and Hannah Martin had 10 known children:

  1. A male infant was baptised on 21 September 1707 in West Clandon.

  2. Thomas Harrison was baptised on 12 October 1709 in West Clandon, at which time his father was said to be a labourer.  He may have had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Harrison was baptised on 18 March 1730/1 in West Clandon.

    2. William Harrison was baptised on 8 August 1742 in West Clandon.  He may have died aged 76 years and have been buried on 11 November 1819 in West Clandon.

    3. Robert Harrison was baptised on 21 October 1744 in West Clandon.

    4. Henry Harrison was baptised on 3 July 1748 in West Clandon.  He may have died aged 77 years and have been buried on 19 April 1825 in West Clandon.

  3. Mary Harrison was baptised on 20 December 1709 in West Clandon, when her father was said to be a farmer.

  4. Hannah Harrison, my 6x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 14 August 1711 in West Clandon.  She married William Miriam in 1733.  (They have their own page.)

  5. William Harrison was baptised on 12 February 1712/3 in West Clandon, at which time his father was a farmer.

  6. John Harrison was baptised on 20 October 1713 in West Clandon, at which time his father was a labourer.

  7. Jacob Harrison was baptised on 28 November 1714 in West Clandon.

Jacob may have married Ann Shingvill on 18 May 1736 in Abinger, Surrey, but there was another Jacob Harrison born in 1711.

Jacob and Ann had the following children:

    1. John Harrison was baptised on 23 July 1758 in West Clandon.

  8. Elizabeth Harrison was baptised on 16 August 1715 in West Clandon.

  9. Nicholas Harrison was baptised on 11 November 1717 in West Clandon.

  10. Mary Harrison was baptised on 11 February 1719/20 in West Clandon.

A Thomas Harrison married Ann Longhurst on 16 February 1676 at St. Nicolas in Guildford, Surrey.  He was then of Worplesdon Surrey and she of West Clandon.

The following children had a father named Thomas Harrison:

  1. Richard Harrison was baptised on 28 July 1667 in Albury.

  2. Thomas Harrison was baptised on 20 June 1669 in Albury.

  3. John Harrison was baptised on 23 February 1676/7 in West Clandon.

  4. James Harrison was baptised on 2 February 1686/7 in West Clandon.

  5. Charity Harrison was baptised on 21 October 1689 in West Clandon.  She married John Paine on 5 August 1711 at St. Mary's in Guildford, Surrey.

  6. William Harrison was baptised on 10 June 1694 in West Clandon.

The data on this page has been put together from the IGI, a transcript of the parish registers on microfilm and the Surrey Marriage Index.  At some point I will visit the Surrey Record Office and check original sources.  As you will see from the above, Thomas seems at times to have been described as a labourer and farmer - could this mean there were 2 Thomas Harrison's in West Clandon at the same time?  It was Thomas the labourer who died in 1721.
