My Possible Harland
Ancestors
A 5x Great Grandmother may have been
Sarah Harland. But, and
this is a big but, it depends on who was the father of my illegitimately
born Great Grandfather
William Stillaway
(1866-1939).
William Stillaway's mother was
Eliza Stillaway (1846-1908) and in 1874 she married
Henry Silverson (1850-?). I think that she had previously had a
relationship with Henry's elder brother William Silverson (1842-?).
My reasons being that Eliza gave birth to illegitimate twins named William
and Eliza - named after herself and possibly their father? William
Silverson was himself a twin and although he was in the area (Henfield
and Woodmancote) when the 1861 census was recorded, he wasn't there in 1871
and by 1881 he may have been a sailor on board a ship moored down in
Plymouth. So did he do a runner after the twins were born?
However, even if William Silverson was not my direct ancestor, his
brother was my step ancestor, making Sarah Harland a step 5x Great
Grandmother. Sarah may have been the daughter of
Richard Harland and
Ann Juniper, or
Henry Harland and Elizabeth Gander who married in Hurstpierpoint
in 1751.
