William HARDS (c1812-1898)

and Elizabeth PAYNE (1821-1862)

 

William Hards and Elizabeth Payne married on 11 September 1842 in Steyning, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  One of their daughters married the brother of my 2x Great Grandmother.)

William Hards was born about 1812 in Steyning, Sussex.  He was the son of William Hards (1788-?) and Maria Goacher (1788-?).  He died aged 85 years and his death was registered in the second quarter of 1898 in the Steyning registration district.

Elizabeth Payne was born in 1821. She was buried in Steyning on 21 September 1862.

 

William Hards and Elizabeth Payne had 9 known children:

  1. William Hards was born about 1842.

  2. Ann Hards was born about 1844 in Steyning.

    Ann married James Stenning in 1871.

    James was born about 1846 in Pulborough.

    James and Ann had 7 known children:

    1. James L. Stenning

    2. William A. Stenning

    3. Esther M. Stenning

    4. Kate E. Stenning

    5. Samuel Jacob Stenning was born in about 1878 in Steyning.  He married Annie Ada Buckman in 1900.  She was the daughter of Henry Buckman and Ellen Silverson.

    6. Walter H. Stenning

    7. Charlotte E. Stenning

  3. Emma Hards was baptised on 5 April 1846 in Henfield, Sussex.  She was buried there on 28 October 1877.

    Emma married William Stillaway (brother of my 2x Great Grandmother) on 30 July 1870 in Woodmancote, Sussex

    William was born on 15 August 1844 and baptised on 8 September 1844 in Henfield.  He was the son of Samuel Stillaway (c1814-1887) and Ruth Woolgar (1821-1858).

  4. Walter Hards was born about 1846.

  5. Albert Hards was born about 1850.  His birth was registered in the first quarter of that year in the Steyning registration district.

  6. Esther Hards was born about 1852.  Her birth was registered in the first quarter of that year in the Steyning registration district.

  7. Catherine Hards was born about 1856.

  8. Levi Hards was born about 1858.

    Levi married Harriet Blackman on 27 October 1883 in Bramber, Sussex.

    Harriet was baptised on 3 August 1862 in Upper Beeding, Sussex and was the daughter of William Blackman (1824-?) and Mary Ann Traveller.  She died in 1897.

    Levi and Harriet had 6 known children:

    1. Mary Ann Blackman was born on 9 June 1883 and baptised on 28 October 1883 in Botolphs, Sussex.

      Mary Ann married Tom Pollard Woolgar on 30 July 1913 at the register office in Newhaven, Sussex.

      Tom was born on 19 June 1883 in Henfield, Sussex and was the son of Louisa Woolgar (1864-1934).  He died on 5 October 1964 in Heighton, Sussex.  (Louisa was the daughter of James Woolgar (1833-1907) and Ellen Vinall (1836-1898).  Her grandparents were Stephen Woolgar (1797-1862) and Sarah Hards (1796-1857).

    2. William H. Hards was born about 1886 in Steyning.

    3. Noah Hards was born about 1888 in Steyning.

    4. Katie Hards was born about 1892 in Steyning.

    5. Alfred Philip Hards was born in the third quarter of 1894 in Steyning.

    6. Emma Hards was born about 1897.  Her birth was registered in the first quarter of that year.  She married Alfred Caddy.

  9. Robert Hards was born about 1862.
