Thomas HAMMOND (c1660-1714)

and Susan (?-1727)

 

Thomas Hammond and Susan may have been my 8x Great Grandparents.

Thomas Hammond of Chiltington left a will in 1714.  He was a malster.  He was the son of Isaac Hammond and Joan Nye.

Susan Hammond of West Chiltington left a will in 1727.

 

Thomas Hammond and Susan had 10 known children:

  1. Thomas Hammond was baptised on 31 May 1683 in West Chiltington.  He was mentioned in his mother's will.

    Thomas married Mary Page on 5 June 1701 in West Chiltington.

    Thomas and Mary had the following children:

    1. Sarah Hammond was baptised on 11 May 1702 in West Chiltington.  The baptism register recorded that she was the daughter of Thomas Hammond, junior.

    2. Isaac Hammond was baptised on 30 December 1703 in West Chiltington.  An Isaac Hammond of West Chiltington left a will in 1771.

    3. Luke Hammond was baptised on 22 January 1712/3 in West Chiltington.

    4. William Hammond was baptised on 30 January 1714/5 in West Chiltington.

    5. Anne Hammond was baptised on 19 October 1716 in West Chiltington.

    6. Betty Hammond was baptised on 3 May 1719 in West Chiltington.

  2. Susan Hammond was baptised on 22 January 1684/5 in West Chiltington.  She married 3 times.  Firstly to Thomas Bennett in 1705, then Edward Sayers in 1717 and finally Thomas Elliott in 1726.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Joane Hammond was baptised on 4 November 1686 in West Chiltington and buried there on 8 July 1703.

  4. Anne Hammond was baptised on 15 January 1688/9 in West Chiltington and buried there on 24 April 1689.

  5. Joseph Hammond was mentioned in his mother's will, at which time he was living in Thakeham.

  6. John Hammond was baptised on 23 November 1693 in West Chiltington.  He was mentioned in his mother's will.  He was appointed an executor of his sister Susan's will.

  7. Luke Hammond was baptised on 14 May 1696 in West Chiltington.  He was mentioned in his mother's will.  A Luke Hammond of West Chiltington left a will in 1748.

    Luke married Elizabeth Hall by licence on 14 October 1729 in Bury, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 27 September 1729 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester which noted that he was a bachelor and yeoman of West Chiltington whilst she was a spinster of Bury.  Her surname was recorded as Hull in the marriage licence.

    Luke and Elizabeth had the following children:

    1. Luke Hammond was baptised on 23 November 1730 in West Chiltington.

    2. Elizabeth Hammond was baptised on 5 May 1732 in West Chiltington.

    3. Sarah Hammond was baptised on 10 September 1733 in West Chiltington.

    4. Clement Hammond was baptised on 24 October 1740 in West Chiltington.

  8. Rachel Hammond was baptised on 21 December 1697 in West Chiltington.  She was buried on 11 October 1766 in West Chiltington.

    Rachel married Edmund Sares on 12 October 1719 in Fittleworth.  She was then of Chiltington and he a husbandman of Thakeham.  Rachel was mentioned in her mother's will as the wife of Edmund Sayers of Thakeham.

    Edmund and Rachel had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Sayers married William Bowley by licence on 11 March 1757 in Woolavington.  Their marriage licence was issused on 8 March 1756 (years from the the Sussex marriage licence) by the Archdeaconry of Chichester.  It recorded that they were both aged 35 years.  He was a bachelor and carpenter of Chiltington whilst she was a spinster of Woolavington.

  9. Mary Hammond was baptised on 16 April 1700 in West Chiltington.  She was mentioned in her mother's will, at which time she was unmarried.

    Mary married Clement Upperton by licence on 2 September 1728 in Wiggonholt.  Their marriage licence was issued on the same day by the Archdeaconry of Chichester and noted that she was of Chiltington and he of Bury.

    Clement was appointed an executor of his sister-in-law Susan Elliot's will.  He may have been baptised on 28 January 1689/90 in Bury and have been the son of Clement Upperton, junior (1668-?) and Joyce Moorey.

    Clement and Mary had the following children:

    1. Mary Upperton was baptised on 27 December 1729 in Bury.  She married John Brown by licence on 21 April 1746 in Bury.  Their marriage licence was issued on 19 April 1746 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that he was a yeoman of Houghton and she was of Bury.

    2. Clement Upperton was baptised on 6 October 1732 in Bury.

    3. John Upperton was buried on 29 October 1734.

    4. Susanna Upperton was baptised on 24 April 1735 in Bury.

    5. Elizabeth Upperton was baptised on 7 February 1737/8 in Bury.

    6. Joyce Upperton was baptised on 12 March 1741 in Bury.

    7. Joseph Upperton was baptised on 9 May 1747 in Bury.

  10. Isaac Hamond was mentioned in his mother's will as her youngest son.  He was also appointed sole executor of her will.
