George GUMBRIL (1718-1795)

and Sarah VERREL (?-1784)


George Gumbril and Sarah Verrel married on 1 May 1749 or 1750 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

George Gumbrel was baptised on 7 December 1718 in Billingshurst.  He was buried on 24 May 1795 in Billingshurst, as George Gumbrell.

Sarah Verrel's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 26 June 1784 in Billingshurst.  The burial register noted that she was the wife of George Gumbrell.


George Gumbril and Sarah Verrel had 9 known children:

  1. Sarah Gumbril was baptised on 10 March 1751 in Billingshurst.

  2. George Gumbrell was baptised on 19 July 1752 in Billingshurst.  As George Gumbrel, did he marry Sarah Holder by banns on 6 October 1778 in Tortington, Sussex?  They raised their family in Arundel, Sussex.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Mary Gumbril was baptised on 14 July 1754 in Billingshurst.

  4. Ann Gumbril was baptised on 19 January 1758 in Billingshurst.

  5. Thomas Gumbrel was baptised on 14 September 1761 in Billingshurst.

  6. Elizabeth Gumbrel was baptised on 25 September 1763 in Billingshurst.

    Elizabeth may have married Daniel Bristow by banns on 2 February 1789 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.  Be was then from Pulborough and she was of Wisborough Green.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Jupp and Jane ?.

  7. Martha Gumbril was baptised on 2 March 1766 in Billingshurst.

    Martha married William Jupp by banns on 12 May 1787 in Thakeham, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor from Warminghurst and she a spinster of Thakeham.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Lidbetter and Elizabeth Gumbrel.

  8. Ruth Gumbrell was baptised on 12 May 1769 in Billingshurst.

  9. Leah Gumbrell was baptised on 18 September 1774 in Billingshurst.

    Leah married Thomas Jays by banns on 12 March 1794 in Slinfold, Sussex.
