Samuel GUILE
(1765-1836)
and Elizabeth MOODY (1774-1856)

Samuel Guile and Elizabeth Moody married by banns on 4 October
1797 in Poling, Sussex. At the time they were both of Poling.
One of the witnesses to their marriage was Richard Guile. (They
were not my direct ancestors, but they were the 4x Great Grandparents of my
cousins.)
Samuel Guile was baptised on 27 January 1765 in Billingshurst,
Sussex. He was the illegitimate son of
Jude Guile
(1737-?). He died aged 72 years and was buried on 10 April 1836 at
West Tarring, Sussex, by the name of Samuel Giles
Elizabeth Moody was baptised on 21 March 1774 in Littlehampton,
Sussex.
She was the daughter of William Moody and Ann Upperton.
She died aged 80 and was buried in Broadwater in 1856.
Samuel Guile and Elizabeth Moody
had 7 known children:

baptised on 25 November 1798 in Poling.
He married Jane Mitchell in about 1825.

was baptised on 16 June 1801 in Poling. He married
Frances Giles

April 1803 in Poling. He married
Harriet Austen in 1827.

Amy
married John Chalcraft (or Chalker) by banns on 28
August 1825 in Broadwater. They were both then of Broadwater.

Richard Gale (surname from a transcript) was baptised on 18
September 1808 in Broadwater.
As Richard Guiel he married Caroline Goble by banns on 28
August 1833 in Broadwater. The witnesses to their marriage were
Maria Goble and William Guiel.
When the 1841 census was recorded the family were living in Egremont Place
in Heene. Richard was then a brewer and Caroline a straw bonnet
maker.
They had the following children:

Maria Goble Guile was baptised on 1 May 1836 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer.

Caroline Guile was baptised on 22 March 1840 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer. She was a year old when the
1841 census was recorded. Caroline married Joseph Clard
Freeland on 14 December 1858 in Broadwater. Joseph and
Caroline had 6 children.

Kate Guile was born on 15 October 1842 and baptised on 13 November 1842 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer.

Ellen Guile was born on 15 July 1844 and baptised on 11 August 1844 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer.

Mary Guile was born on 7 May 1847 and baptised on 30 May 1847 in
Broadwater.

Jane Guile was baptised on 12 January 1851 in Broadwater.
Jane may have married William Baker in 1876.

Esther Guile was baptised on 26 June 1853 in Broadwater.
Esther may have married Richard James in 1879.

Emma Guile was baptised on 13 April 1856 in Broadwater.
-
Harriet Guile was baptised on 13 November 1814 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer.
Harriet married Henry
Fifield on 13 December 1833 in Broadwater.
Henry and Harriet had the following children:

Elsey Fifield (Fyfield) was born about 1837 in Worthing.

James Reuben Fifield was born about 1849 in Worthing.

Samuel Fifefield was born on 10 march 1850 and baptised on 7 April
1850 in Broadwater.

Frederick Fifield was born about 1856.

Elizabeth Guile was baptised on 29 March 1818 in Broadwater, at
which time her father was a labourer.
