Reuben GUILE (1801-1876)

and Frances GILES (c1799-1876)

Reuben Guile and Frances Giles married by licence on 22 October 1824 in Broadwater, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor of Heene, Sussex and she a spinster of Broadwater.  The witnesses to their marriage were Allen Cook and James Guile.  Their marriage licence was issued the day before by the Archdeaconry of Chichester.  (They were not my direct ancestors, but they were the 3x Great Grandparents of my cousins.)

Reuben Guile was baptised on 16 June 1801 in Poling, Sussex.  He was the son of Samuel Guile (1765-1836) and Elizabeth Moody (1774-1856).  He died aged 75 years and was buried on 23 April 1876 in Heene.  His name was recorded as Reuben Guile in the burial register.

Frances Giles was born about 1799 in Sompting, Sussex.  She died aged 77 years and was buried on 11 April 1876 in Heene.

When the 1841 census was recorded the family were living in Heene and Reuben was an agricultural labourer.

Reuben Guile and Frances Giles had 7 known children:

    2. Thomas Guile was baptised on 28 August 1854 in Heene, at which time his father was a fisherman from Little Heene.

As Thoms Guiel he married Emily Feast on 30 October 1883 at the parish church of St. John's in Burgess Hill, Sussex.   Thomas was then a 29 year old bachelor and labourer, whilst Emily was a 23 year old spinster.  His father was named on their marriage certificate as James Guiel a labourer, but Emily's father's name was not recorded.  The witnesses to their marriage were George Guiel and Isabella Guiel.  Thomas and Emily had 3 children.

    3. Arthur Guiel was baptised on 11 October 1857 in Heene, at which time his father was a labourer from Little Heene.
