John GEALE
(c1600-?)
and Sarah BROCKET (1609-?)

John Geale
and Sarah
Brocket
were my 10x Great
Grandparents. (Click
here to see their
place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 19 July 1632
at the parish church of Holy Trinity in Cuckfield, Sussex.
John Geale's
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me, but he may have been
born at Inums in Cuckfield and he may have been the son of
John Geil (c1570-1613) and
Mercy Lonewell
(c1575-1617). On 22 June 1617, John Gealle, son of
John Geale, a deceased labourer, was apprenticed to Anthony
Mortten a husbandman of Cuckfield. (A John Geale
was baptised in nearby Wivelsfield on 23 March 1605, the son of John
Geale, who may have married Margaret Scrase
there in 1593. This John may have married Ann Tree in
Wivelsfield on 20 November 1637.)
Sarah Brocket
was baptised on 2 April 1609 in Cuckfield. She was the daughter
of
Henry Brocket (c1570-1611) and
Mary
Arnolde (c1575-1658).
Neither John nor Sarah would seem to have been buried in Cuckfield.
Their daughter Sarah settled in nearby Hurstpierpoint, might John and Sarah
have gone to live with her?
John Geale and Sarah
Brocket had 4 known children:
-
Tomasin Geale was baptised on 26 April 1635 in Cuckfield. As
Thomazin Geale she married John Ockenden on 31 March 1657 in
Cuckfield.
They were married by Major Chaloner.
-
Sarah Geale, my 9x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 29
October 1637 in Cuckfield. She married
William Reeve in 1659. (They have their own page.)
-
Susanna Geale was baptised on 3 May 1646 in Cuckfield.
-
John Geale was baptised on 30 May 1652 in Cuckfield.
A marriage licence was issued on 5 August 1626 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes
to Anthony Morton a yeoman of Cuckfield and Joan
Lock a widow of Lindfield. Surety for the licence was
provided by Anthony himself and John Turner a gent of
Horsted Keynes. They married as Anthony Marten and
Joan Lock on 5 August 1626 at St. John sub Castro in Lewes.
