William GRIGSBY (1718-1793)

and Mary AUSTIN (c1718-1759)

 

William Grigsby and Mary Austin married on 14 April 1744 in Pembury, Kent.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  William was the brother of my 6x Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Greagsby.)

William Grigsby was baptised aged 4 days on 5 November 1718 in Lamberhurst, Kent.  He was the son of William Grigsby (c1686-1753) and Elizabeth.  William died in 1793 in Lamberhurst.

Mary Austin's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She died aged 40 years on 6 January 1759 and was buried in Lamberhurst.

 

William Grigsby and Mary Austin had 3 known children:

  1. William Greagsby was baptised on 9 August 1744 in Lamberhurst.  He may have married Sarah Wakelin in 1761.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Edward Greagsby was baptised on 31 August 1746 in Lamberhurst.

    Edward may have married Mary Collins sometime before or about 1775, and they may have had 2 sons:

    1. Edward Grigsby was baptised 8 October 1775 in Brenchley, Kent.

    2. William Grigsby was baptised on 10 August 1777 in Brenchley.

  3. Silvester Greagsby was baptised on 1 May 1748 in Lamberhurst.

    Silvester married Joseph Hodgkin on 23 August 1770 in Lamberhurst.

    Joseph and Silvester had 11 known children:

    1. Mary Hodgskin was baptised on 23 November 1770 in Lamberhurst.

    2. Joseph Hodgskin was baptised on 19 April 1772 in Lamberhurst.  He married Mary Waters on 22 October 1797 in Lamberhurst.  She was then of Goudhurst.

    3. John Hodgskin was baptised on 31 July 1774 in Lamberhurst.  As John Hodgkin he may have married Elizabeth Clifton by banns on 31 October 1794 in Wadhurst, Sussex.  At the time they were both of Wadhurst.

    4. Sarah Hodgskin was baptised on 18 August 1776 in Lamberhurst.  As Sarah Hodgkin she may have married William Tomlin on 28 December 1801 or Stephen Relfe on 23 October 1802.  Both marriages took place in Lamberhurst.

    5. Jane Hodgskin was baptised on 22 March 1778 in Lamberhurst.

    6. Harriet Hodgskin was baptised on 5 November 1780 in Lamberhurst.

    7. Dinah Hodgskin was baptised on 16 May 1784 in Lamberhurst.

    8. Silvester Hodgskin was baptised on 25 June 1786 in Lamberhurst.  As Silvestra Hodgkins she married James Cooper on 13 December 1807 in Etchingham, Sussex.  He was then of High Halden in Kent.

    9. Elizabeth Hogskin was baptised on 17 May 1789 in Lamberhurst.

    10. Edward Hogskin was baptised on 4 September 1791 in Lamberhurst.

    11. Anne Hodgkin was baptised on 2 July 1794 in Lamberhurst.

 

 

I have a note that a William Grigsby married Mary Felton on 6 January 1740 (not sure where).  I also have a note that a couple named William and Mary had a daughter:

  1. Elizabeth Grigsby was baptised on 13 September 1742 in Lamberhurst.  Elizabeth may have married Joseph Cogger on 1 November 1762 in Sandhurst, Kent.
